*Update 10/26/08* Back in July I decided that I would try to be a bit more frugal and switch to a cheaper provider. So I called Windstream, and signed up for their 6Mb/384k package (I didn't qualify for their 12Mb package). Thankfully I hadn't canceled my Insight service, because the difference in service was tremendous. I sometimes connect to my PC remotely, and it was nearly impossible with just 384k upload available. Besides, I was only saving about $15 a month. Insight is still the best bang for the buck in my area.
*Update* 3-11-08 I was a little worried about what would happen to Insight after selling off half of their user base to Comcast. I was afraid that with half as many users we were going to see a price increase. So far, so good. My speeds are pretty consistent even during peak periods. My only real complaint is that Insight continues to limit their news group speeds to 1.5Mb. I download quite a bit, so I would appreciate more download speed. I would consider switching to Insights VOIP service but I was told by a rep that it's unavailable in my area. I've heard some rumors that a 20Mb/1Mb upgrade is in the future. We'll see.
*Update* 11-12-06 Insight recently upgraded their basic service to 10Mb/1Mb. Their Plus package is 15Mb/1.5Mb, which for me is overkill, but if you can afford, go for it. Since the transition to the Sprint backbone, I can honestly say I haven't had any issues. I really like the fact that their CEO now posts here on BBR. He's been very informative, and he seems genuinely interested in what we think. We asked for more speed and he's given it to us. My only real complaint about my service is the newsgroup speeds. It would be really nice to be able to max out your connection downloading from them. I will say that since their move to Giganews servers, the retention is now about 45 days for most groups. Way better than the 18 hours with their other news hosting service.
*Update* 7-27-06 The past few months have been really trying my nerves. Insight seemed totally unprepared for the network change over. I've seen several issues from not receiving e-mail, to total loss of service for several hours at a time. Don't bother calling tech support, they seem lost anyway. I'll continue to be a customer until I have other options, but it would take a lot for Insight to keep me if I did have another option.
*Update* 6-9-05 Insight continues to improve their service. They keep adding speed increases at not additional cost. I have noticed that they seem to be monitoring/blocking some ports. No big deal for me, since I don't use P2P. They are still the best bet for your money, at least in my area.
