Value for money:

I went to their office and picked up a self installation kit (5.2 ghz about 1/2 mile from elgin tower on Randall near the Meijer, and from the time I pulled in my driveway to the time I had everything 100% up and running was apx 1 hr total (if you can put up your own christmas lights, you can install FVI's equipment yourself). 3.0 mpbs Down, 384 kpbs upstream service for 34.95 per month, I consistently run speed tests from speakeasy WELL above those speeds. The latency is way better than comcast or DSL for gaming (or other applications where near real time data is critical). I stream movies via nextflix and hulu with no issues, and have not lost connection once since I installed it.

I called FVI tech support the day after I installed to have them enable DMZ so I can use my work VPN, and it took all of 3 minuets of total phone time.

Very happy I made the switch from comast. After my comcast intro ratres were over, my basic cable + internet was over $110 per month. Now with FVI and dish (much better package and better HD than Comcast) I am about 60 perm month.

I also like that 34.95 per month means....... 34.95 per month..... No more of these extra fee or charges on top of the service price like comcast or AT&T.

So you're the one

I'm out near sycamore and just a few days ago my "once great" connection has turned to crap. Yep, I bounce through Elgin(according to traces) and for the past few days my once playable game is annoying to no end. Previous 20-30 pings to my colo'd servers in Chicago now top over 400ms.

I'm wondering, you go to bed around 11:30-midnight? Thats about when it returns to normal. It typically starts between 2-3pm, so either you have kids or you get home early?

Just kinda curious. but for the previous month, service was outstanding and exceeded my previous expensive T1 to the house. But as I said, a few days ago its been unusable.

Support.. well, we'll just say "someone instead of voicemail". "we're working on it", or "we have a tech at the site". But thats all. They don't even notice it, but their "Network Status" system on their website shows me they have the issues. But it really burns me when it says there are no issues and its still the same issue never resolved. And don't expect any communication, I've only received emails when I overly email them with the same issue. Only to receive a short and sweet "we're working on it" from someone in the office.

Re: So you're the one

tonyufn,

FVI is working on beefing up the bachhauls out in your area. The process has unfortunately gone less than smooth. We hope to have all the issues ironed out within the next couple days so the higher latency will end and your connection will better than ever. We apologize for the inconvenience. BTW, it's unlikely that your packets would ever pass through the towers that noahfschultz's do.

Re: So you're the one

I wouldn't really expect that, was being more of a smart ass. I appreciate that you are telling me this now, but a little more explanation during one of the few times I've called would have been helpful instead of "working on it" or asking for traces.

FYI... previous canopy & airhead system owner/provider here... so I know the flakey backhaul issues sometimes, it just gets annoying when customer services goes down the ....

But it got your attention didn't it?
btw, expect more traces until I get some updates

Re: So you're the one

So here we are 8 days later... (since the initial latency bombs)
...and its still terrible. And not a word on repairs.

This is ridiculous.

Nothing is running on the PC, fresh install and only pingplotter pro installed, direct to Canopy unit.

Trace to google...

We'll try to FVI's webserver

well, first hop can't be bad...

Come on guys

I'll admit it's not consistent... I get decent results at 2am... except for last night when it was totally gone due to weather.
