    My Other Reviews·Charter Pipeline
I ordered DSL from AT&T (dryline) on September 12. It took until yesterday, October 4, to get it all up. If it hadn't been for the good folks on DSLR's ATT direct forum, I probably never would've made it and might've cancelled my order.

I ordered 1.5mbps-3.0mbps service for $28.99 with no phone line and used my existing SpeedStream 4100 modem. They gave me this pricing because I had it attached to my AT&T cell phone account, on which I have two iPhones. I will rate based on the DSLR 1-5 scale, explaining why I selected what I did...

Pre Sales Information: AT&T does a terrible job telling you about their best rate plans because they don't want you to get them. In fact, they aren't even allowed to mention a rate plan other than the standard ones unless you ask for them specifically. It took 4 or 5 phone calls and 2 separate orders to get them to give me the $28.99 price.

Install Coordination: I'll spare you the details. Suffice it to say, it was HORRIBLE. If not for David and some of his buds on DSLR's ATT Direct forum, I'd still be without DSL service. They're friendly and helpful. I highly recommend using them as early on in the process as possible.

Connection Reliability: So far it's great. I had the same service right down the road from here and it was great! So far, no downtime at all.

Tech Support: Sucks. Like install coordination, I only gave them a 3 because of the ATT direct help. Otherwise I would've bombed them with a 1. I had to call back several times because the agent on the phone didn't speak enough English to do anything except read out of a binder. Thank goodness for DSLR!

Services & Value: For the money, my service is fast, reliable and of good value. I'm happy with this part of it.

In summary: Good service, good value; good help on DSLR -- terrible support direct from AT&T on the telephone. Go for it, but be prepared for lots of delays and definitely use the AT&T direct forum here on DSLR.

    ** Update: 1/22/09 **

Service continues to be rock-solid and price is very competitive. However, Charter came to town with 16 meg service and my house is too far from the CO for Uverse. Therefore, I'm closing my account with AT&T and have installed Charter cable. It's not as fast as cable, but it was available and cheap. I leave AT&T a happy customer, and am likely to do business with them in the future.

    Thanks

    Re: Can we help?

If anyone could help I'd be very happy to accept that help!

As of this morning, I still don't see a sync light. I saw at the CID that they are using the green & red pairs, which seems to be on the inside pair in the plug when I unplugged it to plug the modem directly into the CID. I still don't get a sync light, even at the CID.

I may try that test again today, though nothing should have changed since I tried that on Friday.

    What else do you suggest?

    Re: Can we help?

    Well first things first:

Go here and just post your dsl enabled phone number or the account number in a new topic (button at top right of screen)

    »/forum/sbcdirect

Just need the account number or the userid so I can look it up.

Also, did you happen to check at your nid/sni/mpoe to see if you have a signal at the premise by chance?

    Re: Can we help?

I will go there and try to get help if I haven't received any more help from ATT by Thursday morning.

I called this morning and they admitted that a "glitch" prevented them from seeing problems with my installation and that I had a new due date of 10/3 by 8pm. They apologized and said over-and-over again that they thought the level of service I'd received was unacceptable. I can accept that. I'll gladly edit my review if this goes well.

In the meantime, thanks a lot(!!!) for your offer for help. I will give the system a few more days to work it out and I'll follow your link at that point if it isn't resolved.

    Thanks!

    Re: Can we help?

Well I can still track it if you want. Just post the number over there in a new topic.

lemme know, also not sure but you might also check this out to see if you have service working to your location.

»How to test at the nid/sni/gray test jack

That will tell you how to take your modem out to your nid/sni/mpoe and test your service should you have a problem and need to find out if it's inside or not.

    Re: Can we help?

I got your number in direct it looks like the order is completed. I would say at this point confirm with the modem you have no sync at the nid. If not at that point I think you are up to a field tech. I posted some information in direct for you. All I need is just the info.

    Thanks
