I'm writing this after 6 years as a customer and finally going with another provider, so I really can't comment on the current order and install process. Don't get me wrong, for the most part I was satisfied with Southwestern Bell (then SBC, then AT&T) DSL, but probably only because I didn't think or know there was much of an alternative. Reliability was a strong point. I never lost service due to anything other than my equipment. Speeds were not up to what I was expecting or paying for in the end. My plan was 384 kbps - 1.5 Mbps down, and I was lucky to get 650 kbps and it never got much above that.I signed up with a local provider now that resells AT&T DSL but provides their own network and Internet service. My speed increased almost 5 times for less money. Of course AT&T offered to save me money if I stayed with them. Well why don't they do that in the first place? Too late. I also had an extraordinarily miserable experience trying to get them to *disconnect* my service, which makes me all the more convinced I did the right thing in leaving. Absolutely horrible, incompetent support. You can read all the gory details here if you like: »radarjockey.net/?p=7
