    My Other Reviews·Comcast
    ·DSL EXTREME
I got the service back in mid-2004 after I became irate with Comcast's service. The install was very problematic; the modem (2Wire Homeportal 1000HW) would not connect to the internet no matter what we did. After three tech visits (with the last one being handpicked by family friend who is retired from SBC) we were able to connect without issue. I ordered the Express package, which is as good as it gets for my distance from the CO. For a long time I was capped at 768k as opposed to 1536k, which was rectified by the fine folks in SBC/AT&T Direct. It remained solid at 1536/384 for a long time, until recently when it would not sync above 1150-something. Direct helped me out and told me that my line would not handle 1536 down, which is odd but he had proof, so I'm not inclined to argue.

I'm currently back at 768/384, which is good enough I guess. There really isn't a better option for me, seeing as how I torrent a lot and I would destroy Comcast's 250GB cap in no time. The DSL may be on the slow side, but it is rock solid and consistent. The only "outage" I have had since I bought it was a DNS server failure a month or two ago, and that wasn't any big deal. I truly enjoy this service, and I'm sure I would like it even more if I weren't 14k feet from the CO.

    -Update 12/5/08-

Still very stable. Got it rerated back down to 25 per month, and I may drop the tier down to basic for 15. Not too much of a difference between that and what I have now.
