(ratings above consensus)

I have the DSL Xtreme 6MB service. I have my own Netopia 3346 in bridge-mode. I have had the service for about four years and have had only a couple of rare instances where I had to reboot/restart the router, and no instances of any slow-downs or other issues. It just works.

I test the throughput frequently and get exactly the throughput that I pay for...consistently over 6450 down / 420 up. I have about ten PCs at home including two security DVRs that I monitor from my office over a Web-based VPN.

I did have a problem one day last month where I was losing sync.

A call to tech support folks on a Friday identified a line problem, a tech was dispatched to the house for Saturday morning 8-12 appt. He calls at 7:50 and arrives at 8:03.

He tests signals at NID and at modem and discovers high CRC errors, yet signal levels are good. He does a walk-thru of the house with me, and HE notices that I forgot to put a DSL filter on my DirecTV DVR/receiver phone line. He installs that, CRC errors stop, connection has not blinked since. On top of it he was a nice guy; we talked about computers and stupid things that kids break at home.

Note that this was the ONLY time in almost five years that I had to call their tech support and the ONLY time that I needed a tech visit.

I used to use Charter, but dropped them when I started having connection issues. Their field techs were great; I had a signal-level you could cook with (like +30db!!). But their back-end network was so hosed up that my connection was dropping five or six times a day, which killed my Vonage dial-tone at the same time. Spouses seem to get attached to having dial-tone for some reason.
