Well it is December 2, 2000. I gave up completely on these guys. In July, Bell Atlantic disconnected the Covad line, and I called Speakeasy and they said, "Yup! it is lost." And that was it. I never heard from them again. Now 4 months later, after I packed up the Covad modem and discoonected the interior wires, they have sent me a request for payment. For What? Nice folks, tech support is non existent. customer service ditto. One guy even got mad at me because I called until I spoke to him and would not leave voice messages . He claimed he was too busy to talk to me. Yadda, Yadda... Service, I would not know I never got any.
On December 23, I ordered 384 DSL. I asked them to wait until after January 1st to begin the installation process.
By the time I returned from my holiday vacation, I had already missed a Bell Atlantic and a Covad appointment. I should have taken the hint...
After several attempts BA finally delivered a line that Covad would not accept, then Covad came and installed the modem and left. Then Bell Alantic missed 3 appointments, and Covad came again on February 23rd and said the line was unbalance, and Bell Alantic would have to fix it..
Suddenly the line came up, but way below 384, I was getting 220-240. I was told that Bell Atlantic would be back to fix the line. Bell Atlantic showed up unannounced and claimed no access, and Covad claimed they would reschedule an appointment. Instead of that, they declared the line installed on March 6th, although the service was still way under par. I called Speakeasy and they opened a trouble ticket. So when I got home on March 6th, there was no line at all. I had lost the pathetic connection I had been using. As usual Speakeasy was very nice but clueless, the tech support staffer suggested I turn the modem on and off.
Now that I have no DSL at all, Speakeasy has begun to bill me for "service" (I use the term very loosely). They are even refusing to honor the original deal which was free install and free modem. I just want them to go away. If you are even thinking of Speakeasy or Covad - think twice very carefully.
