Value for money:

When I moved to Ashburn, I thought Adelphia was the only game in town. I am extremely happy to be wrong. I found SkyNet through this site and ordered the SkyNet SOHO plan, 1.5 downstream/512 upstream.

The few times I've called SkyNet, their reps have been extremely helpful. The installer team was great and didn't flinch when I asked them to run the service drop to my office. Since that point, I've had no problems at all....even when it snowed heavily and things iced over.

Previously, I had Comcast...which was good, but I always had intermittent drops in service and my VOIP phone (Voicepulse) had drop issues and echo problems. I've not had a since service drop or any problems with my VOIP phone as of yet. So far so good!

    UPDATE - 03/09/05

Throughout the past few weeks, the weather has been none-too-cooperative in our area with a nice mix of 70 degree weather, Snow Storms (at least that is what they call them here, since I am from Nebraska...I'd call it more like flurries), ice storms, and extremely windy days; throughout them all, my service has not dropped once.

I've also experienced extremely good latency when using my connection for games. I'm still extremely happy with my choice of Skynet Access as my ISP!

    UPDATE - 08/01/05

There has been a few outages lately and I am also plagued with a connection problem where my connection drops for a few seconds every so often. While the connection drop does not effect web browsing, any persistent applications (VOIP, RDP over VPN, Gaming) suffer greatly from this problem. When I first called Skynet's tech support, their level 1 techs said everything was okay with my connection. After replacing my WAP, Firewall, and switch without any reprieve, I was able to provide proof of the problem through logging. Skynet's tech support is aware of the problem and working towards a solution now and they think they know what the problem is, though they are not quite sure yet how to fix it. And so I wait.....

Still a great service, but I have to knock down the connection reliability for now until this problem is fixed.

    Update 8/9/05

My lingering problems have been addressed and everything seems to be working perfectly again. Great tech support if you get one of their in-house people!

    Updated 8/11/05

I spoke too soon, my connection is now about as reliable as a wet paper towel holding a bowling ball. Problems range from DNS servers that don't respond to exponential packet loss.

Tech support has been helpful and there are times my connection stays up and good for hours. We'll see what happens from here.
