First World DSL has a good, reliable connection speed. That is about the only thing good I can say about them. There support however, is incredibly bad. It is so bad, that I'm almost convinced that their support numbers and email are re-routed to a competitor.

A few months ago, I wanted my webhosting account cancel, so I emailed billing. No response for a few days. Ok, so I email them again. I was very specific to mention that I only wanted webhosting canceled, not my entire account. A day later I receive an email saying my ENTIRE (DSL, email and all) account has been canceedl, and sure enough it was. Ok, so someone wasn't paying attention, I'll just call them and make them correct the error...NOT SO FAST.

The short version is it took two weeks and dozens of emails and phone calls to scores of First World employees to get my email working again. Unfreaking believable. As frustrated as I was, I wasn't going to write anything negative here, because I assumed that everything was back to normal.

This month, I looked at my bill, and noticed that they were still charging me for webhosting. I called billing, and they claimed that I called them last month and asked to have webhosting re-instated!!!!

Ok, at this point, it would seem to be the obvious choice to just bail to another ISP, right? Well, unfortunately, I signed up for DSL right before they started offering free installation. My roommate and I paid over $500.00 to get this installed. Since I'm happy with the speed and the reliability of the DSL connection, I'm hardpressed to leave just yet. If I hear a good referral from a friend regarding another ISP, goodbye First World.

If I was in the market for DSL, I would tell anyone NOT to go with First World because they've made it quite clear that they're COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT when it comes to support and customer relations. In fact, in talking to a support person when I was having my email problems, he told me that if I didn't like their service, that I should go somewhere else.

Amazing.
