My plan is the 7Mbps (5Mbps download, 2Mbps upload). I have been with Digis on the 7mbps plan for almost 2 years.

I have probably made 50 calls to Digis in the last year. Their tech support isn't great and being on hold with the same elevator music for an hour each time I call is going to be the end of me. Lately, however, they answer the call within the first 5 minutes. I have called them so many times because they can't ever seem to understand what the problem is. I say "slow speeds" and unfailingly they will ask "Can you bypass the router?" You would think by the 50th call they would figure out that my router wasn't the problem. When they say they will call you back, it usually never happens. They have told me that at least 10 times and I have only gotten 2 calls back. At least 3 guys have stepped onto our roof and jiggled the antenna, but to no avail. Finally, they have sucked in their pride and taken the blame for the slow speeds. They even refunded us $10 dollars total for the problems. They say they will have all the issues fixed with a major wire they are putting in within the month. We will see.

EDIT: Those updates didn't work. EDIT 2: Even more updates. They are working. Speeds are looking good. UPDATE 3: Nope, more problems - they never refunded us more than that $10 dollars.

Alright, here is my situation. Digis guarantees 2.2mbps download speed on their 7mbps service. (by the way, most of what I am going to tell you, you can not find on their site. Trust me, I looked.) My download speeds used to range from .5-3.5 Mbps. Upload speeds are probably also guaranteed, and it is probably around 1mbps.

EDIT: I get speeds from 3.5-5.0 Mbps download now. UPDATE 2: I rarely gets speeds above 2mbps. They admit that the network is extremely congested and there is nothing they can do.

Next up, one of my biggest complaints: Throttling. The throttling policy is not stated in detail anywhere on the Digis website. For the 7mbps plan, one is throttled to a mere 1mbps download and .5 upload after only 1GB of transfer daily!!! And don't even dare to hit the 2GB mark in one day as you will be going so slow you'll wish you had dialup again. Digis also has another "no-throttling" plan, but it really isn't worth it, unless you are willing to pay an outrageous amount of money. They charge something like $5 a GB. The lower tier Digis service throttles after only 500mb. By my calculations, after 20 minutes of full usage on the higher tier service, you will be throttled.

Here is the thing... A Digis user can have up to 30GB a month without being throttled. Comcast users can go up to 250GB without any throttling nor caps. With Digis, one could never even hit 250GB because they would be hit with throttling so hard. They could only get up to 90GB, tops! Once again, trust me, I've tried. You can only squeeze 3GB out of Digis a day. Therefore... Digis is NOT unlimited Internet! Comcast, even with bandwidth caps, is so much more unlimited than Digis. Digis, it is the 21st century!

UPDATE: Comcast does have throttling, but it is soft. In other words, it only de-prioritizes your internet, not lowers your speed. It will only effect anyone during congested network times (which are said to happen only rarely).

EDIT: With better speeds, I have changed the review with a more positive tone. I have changed the "connection reliability" and "tech support" to 4/5. If I continue to achieve great speeds even during peak hours, I will change "connection reliability" to 5/5.

UPDATE 2: I am lowering pretty much most of the scores. Tech support has no knowledge that can help the knowledgeable customers. They never call up on any tickets that are submitted, even when they promise to have the problem solved the next day. I have waited a month for tickets to be answered, only to call back and they tell me the ticket was closed for an unknown reason.

UPDATE 3: Congestion is causing not only slow speeds, but is causing equipment to fail. What used to be great latency, has been replaced with a nightmare. Latency is always greater than 90ms for Cali, and it usually hovers around 200ms. In the afternoon, it can shoot up to 500ms. If you like this kind of latency, you should try switching to satellite. Their "Can be used for online gaming" just went from a deceitful marketing ploy to an utter lie.

UPDATE 4: Comcast getting strong signals in my area to allow us to hook up. We will see what happens. If so, then I say- Thank GOODNESS!

C'mon, Digis! The throttling is over the top!
