Good "Fast upstream, super fast downstream. Painless ISP switch."
- Location: Daly City,San Mateo,CA
- Cost: $40 per month (12 month contract)
- Install: about 8 days
Overall "Caps killed it for me"
Value for money:
Since I had an existing DSL (Cyberonic), I had to call in. 20 minute order, 2 minute for the ISP switch verification, and done. ETA: 02-12-2004.
UPS drops off a SpeedStream 5100b. I got a call from SBC (automated) that the ETA is 02-18-2004. Hmm...
DSL goes out for a few minutes, maybe more. I wasn't really watching. When I come back, I plugged in the SpeedStream and see that it's synched at 6016/608. Did that registration thing, and I'm now on SBC.
I thought I would have to endure a week or more of no DSL because of the ISP switch (like my DirecTV DSL to Cyberonic DSL switch), but this was surprisingly painless.
Speed? At around 4600ft from the CO, I'm getting these speeds:
Download = 5.062 Mbps
Upload = 518.06 kbps
03-2011: After 7 years... Goodbye.
Honestly, I was fine with what I had with AT&T/SBC DSL - no major complaints. Even when there were newer options available, I didn't want the potential hassle and downtime with switching ISPs, so I stuck around with them. But now that they're capping us down to 150GB/mo, it was time to go...
I've switched both phone & Internet to Sonic.Net Fusion.
