The rep I talked to made everything clear and simple to understand.
I ordered there 786k-1500k/384k plan for $36.95/month on Jan 21st 2003, got my install kit the 28th which was also the day I was supposed to go live. The install was plug and play.
I never installed there software after reading lots of bad things about it. 
The connection reliability is just about perfect. In the 12 months now that Iv had DSL, Its gone down only 3 times, two of those were for upgrades. The longest it was out for was about 3 hours.
The only problem I ever had that annoyed me was when I ordered the 6MB/608k deal. My profile got messed up and I never got a download increase. I had to call Tech support and ended up getting some idiot overseas.....
Value wise its really the best bang for the buck when your only other choice is someone like Charter.....
UPDATE 2005:
I have been very happy for almost 2 1/2 years now!! The only downsides I see to the service at this point is lack of speed increases to the max allowed by my line (8500/900) and what ADSL supports. The lack of them offering the 6M pacakage again at $45 or less a month. Lastly, the lack up updates and speed of which project lightspeed is being deployed.
Mini Update 2005:
I am still happy with my connection now that I am coming up on 3 years. However! As time goes by I am finding the value for the money going down the drain. With FIOS being deployed and cable companies offering 10Mbps+ , I feel that SBC should be offering there 3Mbps package for $19.95 all the time instead of the new 6 month contract crap they added. I also feel now that the 6Mbps package is back, they should be offering it for around $30 or keep it at $45 and increase the speed to 7/786.
Update 2006: Just upgrade to the new Elite plan for $29.95. I say it's about time they gave some kind of increase! Another update, I am in hell right now trying to get the 768Kbps upload that others have manged to get. I've now talked to 4 people in billing, 4 people in tech support (Tier2) and even ASI and they all insist that the max upload is 608Kbps. So yesterday when they upgraded my speed, they upgraded me from 6016/608 to 6016/608. Does that make sense to anyone?
Update Winter 2006:
After much pain I'm now getting 6016/768Kbps!! Now my problem is billing, I was told $29.99 but I'm being charged $39.99. My connection has been 100% stable and I couldn't be happier given what is available in my area. Right now the biggest downside I see with AT&T (SBC) DSL is there oversea support.
Update May 2008:
Well I'm still on the 6MB plan and I'm ok with it. Again I can't stress just how bad ATT's tech support is. The only problem I have with the service from time to time is when it rains. Of course ATT tech support tried blaming it on everything but there network. Tier 2 support even suggested I should drop down to the 3MB plan because for some reason they can't seem to understand "I ONLY have problems when it rains"
I also have to say that at $39.95/month it's no longer a good value compared other providers. As I said I'm paying 39.95/month, when Verizon Fios first came out, they were offering 20MB/5 (or somewhere around there) for just $49.95, just $10 more then what I am paying for just 6MB.
From a tech point of view, there new U-verse system sucks in every way and I honestly believe it will do nothing but hold back broadband progress in this country. Verizon is offering up to 50MB with there Fios service, Cable companies are offering 10,16,20MB packages, and here we have ATT with there U-verse upgrades that still only offer 6MB.
To make it worse ATT is not only taking there time deploying U-verse but there are many rural areas that still can't get DSL!

Marfa, TX | SBC Yahoo You should be able to renew your contract for a year at the new low prices SBC Yahoo offers. That is what I did here in Marfa, Tx. 3000/512 $24.95. Give them a call. Not Yahoo but SBC. They have been very helpful with me.

| hi i been saying all along why offer good price for express/pro and then rip us off with expert speed that have only a little increase on upload that's not even much at all! sbc is stingy, and terrible marketing practice. unlike verizon sbc get cheaper and cheaper and lower price to get more customer, get cable subscriber to switch over not for the consumer's benefits!
I'm sticking with pro for as long as expert is crap on upload and is 2 1/4 times more expensive!
I did 22.00 x 2.25 and it's 49.50 so that pretty much nailed it. whoever made this new pricing for expert plus dynamic is a dick and a moron. I hate that person.

| hihi again i cannot stress this enough... SBC stands for stupid business corporation LOL. They are. They don't give us what we want but rather shove things down our throat.
If I had to choose between verizon and sbc, I'd go verizon
qwest and sbc? qwest
bellsouth and sbc? BS you get 8.0/512, at least you are maxed out on the download... Plus it's even a little cheaper then expert and even cheaper on the 7th month when you are billed 64.99/69.99, BS is still 46.95
