I switched from Comcast cable internet service about four months ago when they informed me that my internet service was going to be increased from $44.95 per month to $57.95 per month. With the Comcast internet service I was getting an average of 3000k down and 128k up. With SBC DSL Pro, I'm getting on average 2400k down and 400k up, which is right there with the comcast speeds, but at nearly half the cost. Plus, I opted for the self-connection kit and had my connection up and running in no time. It literally took me about 5 minutes to go live. I thought to myself, "it can't be this easy." But it was!! So far, I've have great experience with the DSL line and to my knowledge, it's never been down. Also, the modem is much smaller than the Surfboard modem I had, which makes my office area that much nicer and not cluttered up with cables and a huge modem.
The only downside to my switch from cable to DSL is that I had to run a phone line to the room and install my own jack. It's really pretty easy to do. Bottom line is that if you want fast speeds like cable, but don't want to pay their high price, order SBC DSL Pro, you won't be sorry.
UPDATE 9/14/07: My AT&T DSL line continues to perform flawlessly. I recommend it to anyone looking to get high speed internet over cable companies. In my opinion DSL is just better. Sure, cable is slightly faster, but with almost double the price for a few more KB/sec it just isn't worth it to me. I look at the "value" that I get from something I buy, and this is definitely a good value for the money. One thing to note about the AT&T service is that it's super reliable. If it does go down for any reason, it's back up in no time.
UPDATE 6/8/08: Ok, so DSL Reports wants me to update my review. No problem. I still have AT&T DSL Pro and it's still running like a champ. I have some friends who us Comcast cable for their ISP here in Columbus and it seems like it's down at least once a month. My AT&T DSL hasn't been down once, even during the really bad storms that rolled through here the first of June. I was able to check the live radar using the weather channel's interactive weather map while the tornados were in Edinburgh, about 5 miles from my house. Did my DSL go down? Nope, not once. Still happy and recommending this package.
