~~~~~~~~~update 10/09/2006~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, it seems I am going back to Cox. The drop is speeds from 5Mbps/2Mbps on Cox to 2.5Mbps/425Kbps on AT&T was more than I could handle. I though it wouldn't matter, but once you have the speed, you don't want to live without it. Also, AT&T kept giving me errors on downloads and had trouble with Sync. Thus, I have to downgrade my review and go back to Cox. I guess thier network wasn't all that bad afterall.
I am now back with AT&T DSL. I had it previously when it was SBC Yahoo! and then moved. I went with Cox cable internet and Vonage at first, but due to the erratic pings and suspect Cox network, I felt it was time to make the move. I ordered Unlimited local calling and Pro DSL (3Mbps/512Kbps). It took a while to get the number ported over, but that was Vonage's fault as they dragged thier feet doing the paper work to release my number. I can't hold AT&T accountable for that, so they still get good marks for install. DSL was active as soon as the line was in. The installer was there for 30min. He tested my line for DSL before he left. So far I am getting all my upload, but I am waiting for the download to ramp up which takes place over the first 10 days. Phone works and is nice and clear. I went with this deal, because for Cox with unlimited phone and 5Mbps/2Mbps cable internet the cost would be $90 with taxes and fees. Even if I could get Elite DSL, which I am looking into, it would still be cheaper. For existing customers, the cost would be $10 more with AT&T, and even then it is a good deal. I have the speed stream 4100 DSL modem and a D-Link DGL-4300 which is doing the PPPoE. I have not called tech support yet, so I will rate that when the time comes to call them. I will continue to update as things get going and report back with updates.
