I was a Time Warner/Roadrunner (formerly Comcast) customer for about the last
21 months, until the reliability of their HSI began to go downhill. It got to a point
of wondering whether I was going to have an Internet connection, so I decided to
sign up for AT&T Yahoo's Elite 6.0/768 plan, with no contract term. The modem,
a Speedstream 5100b, arrived via UPS on Tuesday, and today they activated
the connection. The install process was easy using the CD, which explained what
to connect where, though I probably could have done without it. But since I needed
it to complete the registration, I let it run and either opted out of all the extras or
removed it afterward.
I was surprised that I didn't need to install a PPPoE client like Enternet -
apparently AT&T Yahoo seems to work with my existing DHCP setup.
This also meant I didn't need to make any changes in the router
I use (Linksys WRT54G).
A few tweaks were in order; mainly only the MTU needed changing.
