ATT/Yahoo WIMAX has been available in Nevada for almost two years, and while it does work, it should be the last choice, as AT&T's implementation is SLOW.
DSL is not available in my part of town (thanks AT&T) and upgrading the infrastructure is not in their plans.
My speeds, via the tests here at dslreports are from (D/U) 181/77 - 698/271.
There are no speed packages available, it is just one speed at $29.95 per month, no contract. The equipment is a Soma Networks receiver, and a 2Wire 270HG home gateway, all of the equipment is inside, there is no outside antenna. The customer purchases the equipment and is (or was) rebated the purchase price.
If you have no other choice for broadband access, the WIMAX service provided by AT&T/Yahoo does work, but don't expect it to be fast access...
**As of 12/31/08 AT&T will discontinue their WIMAX service, they have finally installed remote terminals throughout town, and are now offering DSL. I converted to the AT&T/Yahoo Elite 6 meg DSL service at a price of $35.00 per month, so I am getting MUCH better/faster service for $5.00 more per month,,,
