My install with AT&T Yahoo went great - it was installed into my building while I was away for work and I received a voicemail message simply instructing me to install the modem and go - it worked as advertised. Three cables, three steps and I was online - BAM; like Kraft easy-mac.
I like that the modem (2WIRE) is very end-user, non-tech friendly - Fisher-Price if you will. Even though I'm an advanced user, I could see how it would allow for simple diagnosing with the average home user like me mammy or paps; perhaps even Frederick, my dog.
Additionally, I think I'll like that my internet, cell and home phone reside on one bill; at least that's what I'm being told.
Fear not, my children - for this review has its dark side.
I'm extremely disappointed to learn that AT&T places speed caps on accounts - so even though my package is 'capable' of 3MB, the cap was set to 1.5. After some arguing with the tech she finally raised the cap to 2.99mb - which when tested, I was able to achieve - for download. Please be sure to note the quotes around 'capable'. This plays an interesting role with companies who claim that load balance, quality of service and other measures are in place for the greater good of all customers to experience the divinity of the internet. If this is the case - don't tell me I'll get 3MB then; when doing so would require passing an act through congress. I'm also less interested in others finding the meaning to life at the speed of light as much as I am about me getting my next mp3 in under a second.
Instead, market your product as such: "AT&T DSL: we'll sell you a motorboat, but please only use the paddles."
Lastly, I'm also disappointed by the latency of page/server connects and also by upload speeds - actually, I'm pissed about the upload speed. My average of the last eight tests showed 433kbs. A fetus gestates faster than I could upload a 10mb file, but to the average budget user, this is a good value for you money. (The speed, not the fetus, I mean)
