Used CableOne modem for 5 years. Was happy with the speed and good service but the price got so expensive, I felt like I was being hosed. I was paying CableOne over $144 per month and the only extra I had was HBO.
My only other choice was AT&T DSL in this area (Biloxi, MS)
I ordered the 3Meg speed, with fixed IP address and was promised $18 per month (for the first 6 months) if I would not cancel the telephone service with Bell South (AT&T). They ended up not honoring the $18 per month price and now charge $37.50 per month. The modem supplied was Motorola 2210-02, cost $75 spread over 10 months. Setup was much more complicated than the Cable Modem. It got even more complicated when I added a LinkSys wireless router.
The order process was convoluted at best. Had to talk to one department for DSL, another department for keeping the phone. One department does not talk to the other. It was like I was dealing with 2 separate companies (which, in fact, they were not long ago).
We had an AT&T salesman call to see how we liked the DSL service and we complained about the modem requiring a power on/off cycle everyday, sometimes multiple times per day, and he immediately changed the subject. Not only that, he made no offer to try to help us with our problem! Amazing. I use to be in sales and I would have lost my job over such behavior.
