My company went with Global Pacific Internet DSL after trying LMKI. We did a lot more research before going with them and they seemed to be able to get what we needed. The sales person I talked to, Jeff White, was extremely helpful and was able to tell us that we qualified and get us a free Flowpoint 2200 router with an extended commitment. We were told that we qualified for 1.1Mbps access up and down for $249. We were also told that we would be up and running in 30 days. I found this hard to believe since I had heard of people waiting up to three months for service.

We signed on the dotted line and waited for a follow up call. Jeff was a little flakey at times but did let us know that PacBell would be out in five days. This was one week after signing the contract.

Covad comes out about two weeks after that. They have some problems with getting the line to sync. We finally get it to sync at about 192K up and down. Covad said that the line tested at approx 16000 ft., but when the Flowpoint router was plugged in, the distance went up to 21,600 ft. I find it hard to believe that there is a mile of wire from downstairs to our computer room, but I am just satisfied to get service. The only problem is that no one told us what the settings were for the service. I had no idea what our DNS was or anything else. We did get a static IP however which is cool. We also got 30 email boxes and 25 megs. of web space, and they register our domain for us free of charge, until Network solutions sends the bill.

I finally got that information on our own, plugged it in, and was able to log on within five minutes. It was awesome. I know 192K doesn't seem like a lot, but it is a large difference from 44,000Kbps.

Another plus is the tech support from Global. They called me on a couple of occasions when they noticed they were not getting a signal from my line. I had turned off the router while doing some work in the computer room and forgot to turn it back on. That is service.

They tend to want to sell Wireless internet over DSL, so beware the sales pitches. They would rather sell Wireless because I think it makes them more money. But other than that I have no real problems with them.

    Bottom line:

Pros: Good tech service, reliable, hardly ever any service outages

Cons: Sales promises a little too much and does not follow up as well as needed, need to provide a little more info upon service hookup(settings for service, more into selling wireless than DSL.

Overall: Good service and rarely out. I would recommend them to most people, as long as you can get past all the Wireless internet pitches.
