After some intitial teething problems related to a combination of factors such as modem, latency, dicey Siemens 2415 phone, and router, I have been running solidly for over 4 weeks now. Not even so much as a reboot of the Motorola device. I still have a little chop when downloading however it is a rare instance where I am on the net and the phone at the same time. I have had no billing issues and calls overseas to Cyprus are going very well. Overall, I am pleased now that the initial problems have been worked out. I would recommend Vonage to folks who are looking to save money on their phone bill.
I say give them some time to work out the teething problems. For the money, its hard to beat.
Equipment: Motorola ATA v1005 Surfboard SB5100 modem Armstrong Cable 3000/down 256 up HP Kmart blue light special computer. Uniden TRU8885-2 cordless phone
Update******** I now have a netgear rp614 router. Seems to stablize things dramatically here.
Also replaced the Siemens phone with a Uniden. ISP replaced surfboard 4100 modem with 5100 surfboard unit. International calls to Cypress are going well. Good voice quality.
**********Update*************** 5/31/2004 Still running solidly behind the Netgear RP614 router. I feel having a router in the mix has been critical to soild performance.
***********update**************** Still running solid. New phone, Uniden tru8885 has made a lot of difference.
******update******* 10/21/2007 The Netgear RP614 was giving me problems so I replaced it with a wireless Netgear router. Once I got that all set up, the moto box took off, got an IP addy and I was making and receiving calls no problem. Still same motorola VT1005 and same Motorola cable modem, same ISP, same Uniden TRU 8885 5.8Ghz phones. Still chugging along.
