Update: My ATA has now failed after a couple of years. I get static straight off of it with a butt set, and two other phones. The money saved was a good thing for a while, but this was rather annoying. I had a good run with Vonage, but I'll be cancelling after I port my number back to where it was. Power is less than reliable in the winter, and my UPS has died. This is not Vonage's fault, but I'm all set with buying another ATA to just have it die in a couple, or few years. I would still recommend Vonage to those trying to save money, but no Outgoing CNAM for caller ID, and saving a few bucks isn't for me anymore. It's a great service, I'm just going elsewhere because I'm a nitpick.

I ported my number from my local RBOC, Verizon. This went smoothly once we released the number for the porting process. Install was extremely easy. I'm also a phone technician, so this helps out as well. I ran a line from the ATA to a junction for all my lines in my home, and disconnected from the POTS NID outside of my home. This made all of my jacks live in the house.

I have three phones attached without any issue. Service worked great. I did have one issue a while back with Caller ID intermittently working, and it was cleared up with a firmware update about a week or two after I started having the issue. The service works great, thanks to my incredibly reliable internet connection. I've had no problem whatsoever. My fiance and I both have cellphones, so power outages are no issue, and even if they were, I could put the modem and ATA on a UPS.

I'd recommend this service to anyone who can get some help with initial installation. Although, a simple install is to put a 2-way splitter into a jack, wire from the ATA to the splitter, and plug your phone in on the other side. As long as all wiring in the home meets at a junction, or is bussed, you'll have service on all jacks. Vonage won't work so well with some older phones, or too many phones without additional equipment.

Overall, Vonage is a great deal, and pretty simple to install, depending on your home phone wiring (if multiple jack setup) Before you hook into your internal wiring, make sure your wire(s) at the telephone NID in your basement, or outside of your home are detached. If multiple lines are at the NID for each jack, you'll need a way to splice them together, off of the NID's terminals. Vonage service quality is highly dependant on your ISP reliability and latency. So, if you're having issues it's most likely your ISP, and not Vonage.

Now I wish Time Warner would stop calling me and trying to get us back with their phone service. I won't be going back there anytime soon, I've had too many problems, and replaced most of my wiring with cat5e
