I couldn't believe how quickly my service was setup. I ordered it over the Internet, and it was at my house ready to go three business days later. Call quality has improved by leaps and bounds since this service first came out. No one can ever tell that I was on a VoIP.
Good points: - I was able to port my number and have my service in 3 business days! - Inexpensive at $24.99 a month with free equipment. - Fax line addition is inexpensive at $9.99 a month. - Soft lines available for $4.99 a month. - They have an awesome feature available where you can give friends and family members a local Vonage number to call, they punch in your number, and then they get connected to you -- all for the price of a local call. - Calls to all 50 states, Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam, USVI, UK, Ireland, Spain, Italy, and France are included with the Unlimited Plan. - You can take your service with you anywhere that has broadband. - You can receive your voicemail messages through e-mail. - You can setup simultaneous ringing so that all of the phones you program in will ring at the same time. - Offers just about all of the same phone features (and then some) that your normal telco offers. - Centralized "dashboard" where you can customize your phone services to your liking over the Internet. - Online account management.
Bad points: - Unless you have a battery backup attached to your phone adapter and modem, you'll be unable to make calls during a power outage. - If your broadband goes out, so does your phone. - For some reason, México, South America and Australia are not included in the Unlimited Plan even though the calls cost the same as the free nations cost. - Caller ID information isn't always correct. I'm noticing, though, that this seems to only plague calls originating from Comcast Digital Voice customers. - Customer service and tech support, whilst helpful, often seem on edge if you know what I mean. - Takes an act of God to cancel or downgrade services. - Customer service and tech support calls are often times routed to overseas providers. It's frustrating to ask them to stop parroting back what you've said to them, only for them to continue doing so.
I know I sound like a commercial for them, but they really are a great company that provides excellent service. If you're not a high maintenance customer, you shouldn't have any issues with them.
