"Call quality is good. Reliability seems good."
"Not as many features as some of its competitors [like Viatalk] (but all the features work with Vonage)."
"If you are looking for reliable, quality VOIP at a discount over your POTS or Cable VOIP options, this is it."

[1-8-2008] Well, Vonage messed up my port from Viatalk. It seems that since I was a previous Vonage customer that they never really cleared my old phone number from their system. I was told that means that Vonage callers have not been able to call through to me since I ported to Viatalk. Further, since my number was still in the system, they actually "automatically" canceled the port! Well, that led me to mess around with my Viatalk service again and to mess with the adapter (SPA2102). Things seem to be working well, so I will give it more time. I will cancel Vonage as I only used them for 5 days and a few minutes on my previously owned hardware.

[5 days ago]Last March so, I gave Vonage a try. My first attempts resulted in quality issues and I didn't give them enough of a chance and ported to Viatalk (after a brief trail of SunRocket which I returned and then it promptly went out of business). Viatalk has some excellent features, and I learned how to configure the router in front of the ATA to properly handle VOIP (forward UDP ports and give SIP priority in QoS). Anyway, after many problems with Viatalk and reliability (see my review there), I have initiated a port back to Vonage.

They had my old ATA up and running with a little trouble getting the MAC moved from my old account to a new account, but not a big deal. I was up and running within an hour. I forward all my calls from Vialtalk to Vonage until the port completes. A few calls forwarded from Viatalk have resulted in dialer complaints and noise (I will raise the rating to 100% if this goes away entirely after the number ports), but ALL calls directly to the "virtual" number Vonage temporarily assigned me have been perfect. All outgoing calls have also been perfect. No issues what-so-ever. The Voicemail system is a MASSIVE improvement over the product Viatalk offers.

I am paying about $31 and some change per month for service (much more than Viatalk with the prepaid deal and a free year), but I get reliable and quality service. I get a LOT of features and free domestic long distance (I don't particularly use Canadian or International Long Distance) for $15-20+ cheaper than QWest offered (without all teh features and no free long distance). The price is cheaper than the Voip offered through Comcast as well [I refuse to pay POTS prices for VOIP ... that is just silly].

As I use service with Vonage for a while, I may come back and adjust my ratings and ammend my review.
