I was tempted to get $30 plan that included all good features and unlimited international calling for select countries. At first I noticed some quality issues, but placing it on DMZ and static IP solved some problems. However, there TWO major problems.
First, taxes, it's 29.99 plan but after everything it's 42, almost as bad as POTS it was intended to replace. Verizon will allow you to dry loop but it will carry price hike of $10, so you can say that total VoIP investment per line is $52, so virtually no savings, especially since I don't call international that often.
Another problem is the unit. It's All in One (router, ATA, phone) Uniden UIP165P. First, the handset is POS and has terrible sounds quality, I had to use base unit to talk because the noise is so bad. Inference is to blame but my 2 year old 5.8Ghz panasonic (uses same band) doesn't experience that. Last but not least, there are problems making international calls, On few occasions I was unable to hear anything not even a tone, while other party got a ring and deaf phone. Still I'm thinking if I should keep it and port the number or just leave it till contract expires.
