Called Pacific Bell on 2/24 or 2/25 to order Enhanced DSL with 384-1500/128
and 5 static IP's. Got confirmation on 2/29 that DSL would be installed on
3/16 which was only 3 weeks wait from order date, so I was happy.

On 3/13 somebody from PacBell came out to make changes on the outside box.
Earlier on the 3/13 I had called to confirm the install date and got the OK
again for the 16th. At that time I also asked for the installed equipment to
make sure it's external and non-USB and was told external Alcatel 1000.
Tried to change to Speed Touch Home but C/S rep and supervisor weren't
knowledgeable at all about equipment and said "but this is the best
equipment we have". Well, I let it be at that.

It's 3/16 and PacBell shows up at 8:30. I was at work because I couldn't
take the day off so my wife had to deal with them. Somehow my PC lost its
BIOS configuration and wouldn't boot anymore. Luckily I was able to take
some time off to rush home. Arrived there and DSL was already running on my
wife's PC and my PC was back up also after resetting BIOS back to default.

Our PCs are networked through a 5-port switch but the tech wanted to install
DSL first through a 2nd NIC in each PC to make sure it works before hooking
it up to the switch. No problem since we had 2 spare NICs and another one
was included in the DSL order. DSL installs fine on my PC, we hook up the
Alcatel Speed Touch (tech had one in his truck and said they don't use the
1000 anymore) to the uplink port of the switch and everything works fine.
Both PCs are happily connected to the Internet at the same time.

We're all set after 2 hours, which isn't bad at all, considered that the
tech set it up on 2 PC and on the switch. Before that he also installed the
splitter and ran a new cable to the computer room. He was very professional,
knew his stuff and gave us all the necessary information.

I live 6000 feet from CO and the speed is perfect. I get full 1.5 Mb/sec
download, which equals 150 kilobyte/second and average ping is 40-50ms. I
know that Pacific Bell customer service can be awful at times, but this time
they were perfect and everything was smooth. Newsgroups seem to be a little slow and I can't rate email because I use my own domain for it.

I'll update this review if things get worse...
