Pre Sales information:

I finally decided to go with residential DSL after doing all the review legwork. Looked at Telocity due to their rating on DSLreports, newsgroups, and friend's recommendation. I have to say that I was not impressed with this company at all.

I submitted my request to them via their web site with explicit instructions to communicate price quotes via email due to work's policy about personal phone calls. Of course, I get a phone call two days later at work about getting signed up for DSL. Was upset about them calling, but I really want DSL so I talk to him about his company's offerings.

He first says he has to run a program to test my distance from the CO(figure it is similar to the one found on this web site). He says that I qualify for DSL and told me all about their SDSL plans. I told the gentleman that I would rather sign up for the ADSL plan that I saw on their web site. He then told me that I was too far for ADSL. Now I know that distance is a factor for DSL, but at ~12,000 ft., I should qualify for DSL. I told him I would check elsewhere.

I proceeded to call PacBell at lunch and asked if 12,000 ft was to far for ADSL. The representative said that this distance would definately qualify for ADSL and said that I was misinformed.

Therefore, I am left questioning if they were trying to sell me a service that was more expensive than I wanted, or they just did not have the correct information. I personally have decided to look elsewhere.
