AAARGH!
After six weeks of waiting, I find that I'm in one of the 20% of U.S. neighborhoods on a digital loop carrier. Telocity told me that Ameritech had connected my house with a DSL line, and to go ahead and call Rhythms for an install appointment. On calling Rhythms, I was told that while my CO is set up for DSL, my neighborhood is on a digital loop carrier; Rhythms' ADSL service requires copper and so they couldn't install. My entire Telocity order was cancelled by Rhythms.
So it appears that I'm SOL as far as DSL from anyone! And I live in an area that has no cable access.....I might as well be in the boonies. ISDN? Too expensive, too slow, but it's my only option for "high speed" net access at this point. Is there any hope? I there any way I can pressure Ameritech to upgrade my neighborhood from a digital loop carrier?
I am disappointed in Telocity because they were unable to provide this *basic* information regarding my being on a DLC (they told me that *they* contact Ameritech, and Ameritech presumably would have been able to tell them this information--Ameritech is at fault too). If I had been told this information up front, I would not have wasted six weeks of my time waiting.
Sorry for the rant, but I think I am raising a valid point regarding the coordination of installation between Telocity and Ameritech.
Bob
