UPDATE January 13, 2008. Little has changed... Stanaphone is till a great value with good reliability and quality. See below
I have found StanaPhone to be a solid service. Even thought it is in a Beta state, they keep adding valuable extras like free incoming fax to email service. Tech support has been good to me, always responding to problems I submit. Time to reply obviously reflects the criticality of my problem. Trivial may take a day or two for a reply. Critical has been answered very quickly, even with a phone call if they need additional detail. Their user forums have also been of great help.
The most difficult process originally was getting a Packet8 DTA-310 correctly set up to work with StanaPhone's service [Other generic ATAs worked immediately]. Now, many of my friends and family members have DTA-310s in use and we communicate for free among us. Great reason to recycle P8 equipment!
I have found the quality of outbound service to be very high. Although I have several VoIP services for general use, I frequently find myself using Stanaphone for important calls when I want to be sure of the quality of the connection. The quality is there and the per minute cost is very reasonable, considering that I'm paying nothing for a DID, any inbound calls, or calls within the StanaPhone network.
20080617 - They seem to be having some outages these days, so the reliability rating takes a hit! I'm not ready to give up on them since they've provided good quality service to this residential customer, most of the time.
