    ***LATEST UPDATE - May 14th, 2008***

Well, things have been rock solid for years now. Every time I think about going with a lower priced provider I realize that none of them can match QV's reliability and quality for me. The supposed "major site redo" hasn't materialized and I lowered the rating on that. It was kind of accounting for minor improvements with an eye towards the major one to come. It never did. Other than that I'm very happy with it. If I didn't tell people (aside from the toll free number!) they wouldn't know I used VoIP.

    ***END OF LATEST UPDATE***

    **UPDATE - November 23, 2006**

About a week or so ago Digital Realm took over QV. One of the guys at Digital Realm used to be one of the original guys at QV. This recent change means only good things for QV. The support is already improving and they brought back plans that were dropped prior to them taking over. They've demonstrated directly to me, their desire to get back to where they once were and I believe they will.

Almost instantly they added Caller ID with Name and updated their site. The portal redo is slated to be done soon, I'll update when that happens.

    **End of UPDATE**

    **UPDATE - November 5, 2006**

QuantumVoice has fallen from grace quite a bit lately. Some customers on here have expressed dissatisfaction with their customer service and call quality. I will admit that their support can be slow but I haven't had to use it much. As far as quality goes, I have experienced no issues with it. It works when I need to make calls and calls ring through just fine.

Early on I was pushing QV and recommending them to everyone I knew. I still do recommend the toll free plan I have, but not their typical non-toll free plans. I only have experience with the toll free number plan so that's all I can speak for. If you're looking for ultra-cheap VoIP without a toll free number I'd recommend ViaTalk or any of the other top providers.

It works for me but apparently not too many others on Broadband Reports, My results are not typical.

    **End of UPDATE**

    **UPDATE - April 26, 2006 **

They lowered their price from $42 to $40 and added call treatment features. I can now take a call from a given number and automatically forward it to any other given number. This is a very nice feature if I want calls from my work to go to my cell phone when I'm out. Not to mention I put in numbers of people who I do not want to reach me and forward them to the Rejection Hotline.

I am already QV's biggest pimp on DSLR. With two years of reliable service, lower prices and more features I can't recommend them more. You will not find a service out there that offers what QV offers. All those that choose the bargain services can have their poor support and one or two local numbers. I'll take my unlimited toll free number any day.

    ** End of UPDATE - 4/26/06 **
    **UPDATE**

Changed "website" to 5 stars because of the addition of incoming calls to the call logs and because new features are on the way.

Also changed "call quality" and "reliability" to 5 stars because both have proven to be much better over time than they were after initial issues.

    **UPDATE**

After having had this company's service for a few months everything is going great. I am a very picky and demanding user so I've nitpicked more than most. They've accommodated me in every way and service is working great. They've allowed me to upgrade to SPA-2000 firmware version 2.0.9 from 1.x. It has worked very well.

You may not have ever heard of them, but they are a very good company. Their parent company is Advanced Media Services ( »www.ams-llc.com ) and their site is »QuQuantumVoiceom as you mamay'veeen able to guess. They are a small company, no doubt, but don't let that fool you. They have given me excellent customer service from PrPrerder to now. I called them before ordering and they answered all of my questions.

Here is an explanation of each rating:

Website - 5 out of 5 stars: Their portal now shows incoming and outgoing calls. There are missed calls and the ability to check voicemail and it does stop the stutter tone when checked through the portal. Overall the portal is not nearly as robust as most providers, but it does the job. They will be adding more features (call hunt, call filters) and giving the portal a new look soon.

Ease of Installation - 5 out of 5 stars: The Sipura SPA-2000 was very plug and play. I consider myself a little more advanced than the average user and they've given me control of some settings. I like that they did that even though they didn't have to.

Call Quality - 5 out of 5 stars: In the beginning I did experience some issues (one way audio, DTMF tones, etc..) but they worked hard to fix any issues immediately. I would explain the problem, and they would know how to go about fixing it. They'd contact me and tell me to power cycle my SPA and it would be all set. All providers have minor issues, but it's how and if they fix them that matters. I have gotten a credit for issues. Since the problems have been resolved for months the quality continues to be excellent.

Reliability - 5 out of 5 stars: This is similar to the Call Quality category in that when those minor issues appeared it wasn't too reliable. After having used Vonage and Packet8 in the past with poor results, I expected more from these guys. If I were not so picky and demanding I may not have noticed half the issues. I am that way, I did notice them, and they did fix them in a timely manner and as I said above, I got credits. Since those initial issues were months ago, they have established a pattern of reliability for me.

Tech Support - 5 out of 5 stars: No matter who I've spoken to, they've been courteous and helpful. If they didn't know what was wrong right away, they looked into it. They've communicated very well over the phone (always call back) and in e-mail. Sometimes I have to tell them that I don't need a call back right away because it's 1 AM on Sunday. They still do call me back. They really have gone out of their way more than I've ever experienced. To me, besides the obvious benefits of an unlimited incoming/outgoing toll free number, this is their strongest point of all.

Value for the Money - 5 out of 5 stars: I had Vonage and it didn't work very well for me back in 2002. After that I tried Packet8. With Vonage's virtual numbers and even when Packet8 adds them, this was a better deal. I have family spread out everywhere (MD, NY, NH, FL, etc..) and they can all call me without the need for many virtual numbers. No surcharges from payphones and all taxes/fees are built into the $41.99 price per month.

I have been an active user of DSL Reports since April of 2000 and I am NOT an employee of any provider. I'm not an agent, affiliate, or reseller of any ISP or VoIP provider. Just take a look at any of my over 700 posts if you have any question as to the validity of this review. In a time of big VoIP companies and even start ups with poor customer service I think one with great service needs to be recognized. Just give them a call at 1-800-914-2943 and if you get voicemail they'll call you right back.

    Improvements?

In your 4/26 update you mentioned "Changed "website" to 5 stars because of the addition of incoming calls to the call logs and because new features are on the way."

As a QV subscriber who eagerly has been waiting for some form of improvement to their website I immediately checked their website for signs of a change, sadly there weren't any.

The incoming and outgoing caller id logs that you mentioned have been around since last year and the new features "coming soon" on their website has been that way for over a year. If you have inside information regarding when these new features are coming, please share. The last time I emailed QV, they indicated there was no launch date set for these features yet. Not only that but some features that used to work on their website have since disappeared, for example the forum, the click2dial feature on the logs, and the star codes.

IMO, I can understand giving them a high rating for quality, which is where they shine but the website is in need of a serious redesign. The features that they announced as coming soon should either be taken off their feature list or given a rollout date.
