    My Other Reviews·1and1
I have used this host for a couple of years now and I have to vouch for their great service. I initially signed up for their Ultra Plan, but as my site grew I upgraded to their Reseller Basic+ plan (for the increased disk space and bandwidth), paid about $300 for a year.

    Great host, excellent customer support.

    Updated 2006-06-18:

In November 2005 after an almost 5 day outage caused by problems with the Sagonet datacenter where my sites were hosted, I cancelled my service with personalsites. An outage of this length was unacceptable and no alternatives were immediately offered.

Since then over a dozen emails have been sent to their billing department, all have gone unanswered. This organization owes me a refund for over $150. I finally managed to get in contact with Adam Stewart (the owner) and was assured that a check would be sent immediately.

Now, almost a month later (and 8 months after cancellation of services) I have not been mailed a check or contacted with any updates. The lack of post-sales support and the length of time that this has been going on is enough to make me reccommend that you stay far away from this host.

    Updated 2006-08-15

Well, things haven't changed any with the exception of the rating I now give this host. My advise for those even considering this outfit is to stay far away.

On June 23, 2006 I finally got this response from Adam:

[bquote] It looks like it was mailed out on May 18th, 2006. If you haven't received it by now, then you most likely will not. We can send another one 60 days from May 18th (which is when that check expires).[/bquote]

So I wait...and wait..and wait. Once the 60 days had passed I sent several more unanswered email messages asking him to resend the check. No response. I sent IM's via the listed support channels, no response. I now find myself banned from posting in the support forums on his site, this changed today only hours after making a new post.

    Billing Dept??

It just looks like a reseller. Try surpasshosting.com or something like that. It looked like this guy adam was billing, technical support, and everything else the site provides.

    Re: refund

Indeed he appears to be. I did switch providers to Surpass back in February of this year and have never been happier.

Hadn't thought of that. I'll contact my credit card company and see if it's possible since it was charged so long ago.

    must agree

I have had similar problems with personalsites.org. I'm glad my refund is finally in. It took months. I have been a happy customer for years, it is only in the last year or so that things have started to deteriorate. One is very lucky to receive a response at all. Since it is a one man show, there is a certain tolerance level. However, citing 'family issues' as a reason for weeks of absence and not responding to emails is hardly professional.

    Avoid.

    Re: must agree

I had the same problem in fact my support requests and then cancellation requests were being deleted from their contact us system, in the end i changed my CC details to a non existant Visa number (often used for testing purposes) just so they couldn't bill me again. I went over to hostgator and I've been happy ever since

How did you actually leave personalsites.org

    State,

I'm in the same boat, I have a new provider that I want my old domain to redirect to. Regrettably whois shows that the address is:

    Registrar Status: clientDeleteProhibited
    Registrar Status: clientRenewProhibited
    Registrar Status: clientTransferProhibited
    Registrar Status: clientUpdateProhibited

I need to get Adam to release these locks so that I can move, but repeated support requests, emails, voice-mails, and smoke signals have gotten me no contact.

    Any advice?

Re: How did you actually leave personalsites.org

I went on a campaign and sent email after email, support ticket after support ticket and left several phonemails a day, you might also try posting in the forums at webhostingtalk.com, last I checked he was an advertiser there. I think ultimately that helped to get things rolling.

If you haven't already seen it, check out my topic on the subject last year: »My experience with personalsites.org -- STAY AWAY

    Good luck!

Yep. I agree, your summation covered it. The site was excellent and cheap for the first 2 years or so but substantially slacked when they, who am I kidding, he, tried to go to outsourced support. After that...pain.

Well boys and girls, looks like they've gone under....

Just happened to be surfing around tonight reading up on hosting, and it looks like personalsites is no more. They've turned over (or sold) their client base:

Like we didn't see this coming...
