Value for money:

First went online and chatted with a customer service rep. After a few minutes the rep stated they could not help me and that I had to call the local Time Warner office.

Called the local time warner office on Friday and the rep was OK. She talked a little fast and was not very knowledgeable about service offereing/choices. Appointment to install modem was quick--setup for Monday.

Technician came on Monday--he called and said if it was OK he can come earlier than expected. That was great.

Installed cable modem and connected to router. Unable to communicate. Then connected one Linux PC directly to the modem. Internet service, YES. However, technician was completely unfamiliar with computers and had no information to provide me to connect my Netgear router. Tried several times to reboot modem, router and PC. No change--no Internet.

Then I connected Windows PC directly to the modem. Reset the modem and restarted PC. Internet service, YES. Again, connected cable modem to router and turned PC, router, and modem off. Then turned on modem, then turned on router, and then turned on PC. No Internet service.

I called the phone number the technician gave me. Less than clueless person answered. Didn't have any idea how to help. Said she would have Tech Support call me. No call from tech support 2.5 hours later. Still waiting...

Well now----

1) You posted a review in the TimeWarner VoIP forum.

Because your complaint is about Internet, NOT VoIP, you posted your review in the wrong place.

In other words, you chose TimeWarner VOIP instead of TimeWarner CABLE.

2) The responsibility of the cable company or ISP is to get your modem properly connected.

It is NOT TimeWarner's job to set up a router for you.

Learn how to do that yourself, google it, consult the router's manuals, or call in the Geek Squad....

Did you also demand that TimeWarner set up your computer?

AFAIK, neither TW nor anyone else (such as Cox, Comcast, Cablevision, AT&T, or Verizon) sets up home networks for customers....

DHCP?

Is there any chance you used to use ADSL with PPPoE? Try to make sure your router is set to "obtain an IP automatically" or to use "DHCP". After that, power everything down, and then back up again. First power up the modem and wait for it to sync, then the router, and then your computer.
