I ordered Flashcom's service for 416 on 1/25/00 for $39.99. I did this even after reading DSL reports. The price was a very important factor for me in ordering my DSL service which is why I did order it even after reading this site. The sales part was not too good. It was obvious that the sales person was only bent on making his comission and then saying goodbye. After three weeks Flashcom calls and tells me that Bell Atlantic will be here on the 15th of Feburary. They do not show up. I call back Fashcom and they tell me that my appointment has been changed to the 22nd. They never mentioned this to me and I would not have found out if I did not call them. On the 22nd Bell Atlantic shows up and there is a problem with my line. They have to install new equipment which takes a week. On the 29th Bell Atlantic completes the work and northpoint ship out a modem the same day. I had my service installed 4 days later by a Northpoint Tech. Northpoint's reps have been very very very nice to me. They provided me with information every step of the way. I would call them and they would answer me and even when I e-mailed them I would get a telephone call back in less than an hour. Bell Atlantic on the other hand is Full of S*it. Bell Atlantic seems to not want to work on the lines. My overall speed has been very good although sometimes there is latency which means that it takes awhile for the other website to respond. It is pretty cool for the price. I would never go back to regular dial up if i can help it. Flashcom and Northpoint seem to be improving there service because of all of the customer service complaints. In all my complete install took about 7 weeks. I would recommend Flashcom for DSL but make sure that when you get them on the phone get everyones number in Flashcom and ask for Northpoints number also. Please, Please, Please, pay with a credit card cause this seems to be the best defense against them BSing you. Try not to use a debit card cause once your cash is gone its gone. DSL is great because you have your regular phoneline on and that is the one great benefit in itself.
