I've historically been a big advocate of cable internet service but RoadRunner/Time Warner in Allen leaves alot to be desired. The install did not go - installer didnt have cable boxes or modems with him when he came out to do the install. Seriously. Then my order got cancelled somehow but the original installer (whom I tipped $20 because he was at the house until 10pm on a Saturday night) came to my rescue with the promised boxes, plus I went out and bought my own modem becuase I needed internet asap.
My main problem with TW is the television package and their ethics behind it. I got "digital classic" package" which has a giant list of probably 5 times the number of channels that you get above and beyond the "basic" and "extended basic" packages. After I ordered the service I realized that those additional channels were all the same ones as the basic and extended packages! For example, with the "digital classic" package I get the local channel WFAA on channel 8,
channel 368
channel 369 - HD
channel 370 - Digital
channel 371 - DT Express
They are all the exact same broadcasts except for the DT Express which just shows doppler. No wonder they have 5 times as many channels on the big package! With the "digital classic" package you also pick up a few specific channes (like soccor, espanol cartoon, gospel music channel etc.) none of which appealed to me.
So I upgraded to the digital package for he HD but I'm not sure if its not hooked up right or something is not enabled but there's not a noticable difference in the HD in my opinion. I have seen HD before and mine does not come close to the other pictures I've seen.
My biggest disappointment with TW is that they do not post their prices on the website. Are they trying to hide something? .
On the positive side, the network has not gone down since it was installed and my speeds are good. We've had the service for 5 days.
