(ratings well above consensus)

I called my local NRTC coop to see about pricing, installation, and a site inspection. The coop (Mis-Wisconsin DBS LLC) was very efficient and answered all my questions and gave me their installers cell number. He lives anly a few miles from me and we have mutual friends in our rural area. I called him and he and his partner were in the area and stopped by a couple of hours later. It was apparent from the getgo that they knew what they were doing. I had spent some time researching and knew how a proper install should be done from reading this and another forum. They gave me the option of a pole mount or having the dish mounted on my heavy duty tower that is 4 feet into the ground and firmly mounted with the proper brackets just under the eave of our 2 story house. The tower is very rigid with NO movement in the strongest winds. The dish is approx. 18" above the support bracket. I chose the tower mount as the pole would be in the backyard and kind of in the way. The tower is right next to the electric service entrance and perfect for grounding. A date for the installation was set for about 10 days later but they called and moved it up a few days earlier. I watched the whole installation very carefully and they also explained everything they were doing. The work was done in a efficient manner by the book. I feel that the install is the #1 factor in getting good reliable service and so far that has been the case. I have the value pack on beam 17 and my speeds have been +/- 2-3% of the advertised value pack speed. I'm completely satisfied. The installer walked me through the modem setup as he performed it and set up my Sony Vaio computer for e-mail etc. and answered all my questions. Cost was $250 for the equipment, free install and $100 for the tower bracket. This bears repeating: Make sure if you get WB you get a proper install! That's the key to reliable service.

15 month update. Our WB which was installed by NRTC has worked nearly flawlessly for 15 months now. Twice it has gone down for an hour or so but a call to NRTC tech confirmed it was a problem on WB's end and that the beam was down. NRTC tech answered the phone within the first 5 rings and I was not placed on hold.

    Another update 8/31/07

Added a linksys WRT54GS router about a month ago for my wifes new notebook computer. Took 15-20 minutes to install Linksys software and put her notebook online wireless. Has worked flawlessly. Speed as it always has been since MidWisconsin DBS NRTC coop installed it 16 months is working as advertised on Value Pack. I have 2 neighbors who have gone with WB through the NRTC coop in the last few months and they tell me their systems are workin great also. We all had the same installer and he is meticulous in his installs.

    23 month update 4/08

I moved up to the pro pack 3 months ago and still running +/- 3% of advertised speed. NO PROBLEMS in 23 months! Get WB through a NRTC if at all possible.
