I originally got Wildblue last year 1) because we live in the country with no access to cable and DSL and 2)because of the hype on the internet about this company, thinking because it was small, it would have fewer problems, even though my daughter, 3/10 mile down the county road from us, called Hughes EXCELLENT.
Installation was flawless, thanks to the dealer here.
It was downhill from there. Seems the beam we are on is out of Syracuse NY, and it is affected heavily by weather. For the first few months, we were down almost as much as up. We got an account with Netzero just for the times we were unable to connect via satellite (the dialup that came with Wildblue was not enough hours to make up for downtime).
It smoothed out for the next few months, and then got steadily worse. Last week, we were back to using dialup (an ineffective method since we both work from home).
Finally I got fed up and, at the end of our one-year contract, contacted Hughes and am getting a new dish and setup this coming week.
The only time my daughter's internet has been down was when there were severe thunderstorms HERE. With Wildblue, we were down everytime it rained or snowed in Syracuse (I kept the weather channel on during the day just to verify that).
Bottom line, Wildblue may not be the worst ISP, but it certainly is crap in Arkansas.
