I ordered Viatalk's $199 plan for 14 months and used the DSLREPORTS coupon and got my monthly total down to $12.43 a month when prepaying for a year. I received the PAP2 very quickly and as soon as I plugged it in it worked perfectly. All the issues I have had have been fixed with a quick phone call to tech support. By the way, tech support has been EXCELLENT and I can actually understand them and they don't take 30 days to fix something that should take 5 minutes like Sunrocket does.
Overall, I highly recommend signing up with Viatalk and supporting them as they are a smaller business with much better customer service and they have many features and contineu to add them based on customer's feedback. They also give you the PAP2 admin password if asked. Their website and control panel could be designed a little nicer. That is why I docked them a point on that. I like Sunrocket's website and control panel better but it is no big deal to me. I also like to have the network unavailable forwarding if my internet goes down. Works perfect!!!
UPDATE 5-23-06
Viatalk's service still works perfect but it is their tech support that I am not happy with. I experience long wait times such as 40-60 minutes to reach a representative. I have never waited this long on the phone before and I think they are starting to fall apart.
They need to get more people working in their tech support department because it is taking forever to resolve issues. I think they have like one or two people working at a time which is unacceptable. They need to hire more people. Even Sunrocket had short wait times like 5 minutes.
UPDATE 8-29-06
Well, Viatalk has worked pretty well since I signed my grandparents up for it. The last 2-3 weeks though has been absolutely horrible in terms of reliability and customer service. Their phone keeps going down and they have to call me on their cell to tell me how it's never working. Then I have to call tech support and wait an hour or more for a representative just to pick up. This is absolutely unacceptable in terms of service and what not. Even Sunrocket picked up in 10 minutes everytime I called them.
I HIGHLY recommend any new customers WAIT to signup for Viatalk until they can figure out what they're doing wrong and let them fix the reliability issues and their customer service issues.
UPDATE 10-20-06
Well, my grandparents haven't reset their equipment for 25 days now which is a record. They haven't had a single issue with Viatalk for 25 days. The service seems much for stable now that they are done with the upgrade of their new network. They are now adding a feature a day to keep us happy and I am happy with my service with them and my grandparents are happy with it too.
The tech support wait time is down substantially to a more reasonable time, not that I would know because I haven't needed to call them lately. I am going to remove my priority support option because I don't call them anymore for issues.
I hope they stay stable like this and keep implementing new features like they are now. I would recommend signing up for them now while they have their $199 for 2 year deal. It is actually $199 plus E911 fees and shipping charges. It will end up being higher than $199 but it is still a great deal and it will still be under $10 a month for GREAT service with awesome tech support.
UPDATE 12-27-06
Well, nothing has gone wrong in any way at all since my last update. Service continues to be great and they continue to add new features and revamp current ones based on user request. There has been some frustration with their new 5,100 residential minutes limit but we only use about 3,000 so we're good there.
I highly recommend new customers to signup now that they're running their 2 years for $199 special. You will have a very good experience with them. You can't get more features and as good of technical support anywhere else for under $10 a month. It just can't be beat.
UPDATE 7-08-2008
We have since canceled Viatalk as they have gone downhill in great leaps. Service kept dropping and call quality suffered. Their tech support must be getting tons of calls on the same issues and they sound very bored and don't know how to fix the problems anymore.
We canceled and are on VOIPo's beta program which has been absolutely AMAZING over the last year. Less than 1 hour of downtime in a full year and the call quality is amazing and calls no longer drop. There are no error messages for callers about this number is not in service either. VOIPo just works!!

| Please call me as a test of voice quality I was about to signup with Viatalk. I called their sales line and was not happy with the quality of her voice. She sounded very distant and when she stopped talking I could here a distinct hiss on the line. She attributed it to there being 20 phones on a single line at their office. They did not have a test line that I could call (they should).
If anyone using Viatalk could call me as a test before I buy, please email me at talk@emailtim.us to set up a call. I created this email address for this purpose only so it will be deleted as soon as someone contacts me. | |
