I was happy to learn about Viatalk recently from these forums. For the price, it couldn't be beat.
After signing up, I experienced the same quality as Vonage. So I was happy. A few weeks after singing up, they had the free year promotion. I called and spoke with a CSR who said I needed to submit a ticket for it. So I did...twice- to no avail. No response and no record in my account pages.
Additionally, the call record feature, which was one of the reasons I decided to switch, does not work. I have tried with various phones hoping the servers simply didn't understand the tone. But it has yet to work. I submitted a couple of tickets on this too, but was never answered then either.
Finally, when dialing a number, it takes almost 10 seconds to begin ringing. I find this unacceptable. Add to that I cannot connect with any Nextel phone numbers.
This company needs to clean their act up, or customers will start jumping ship. If I get no results soon, I plan on canceling and doing a charge back to make sure they don't keep half my money for canceling, which is another issue I have with them...
Update- I still have no call record, my fax is not functional on their lines (had zero problems with Vonage) and now my key tones are not working... this company is HORRIBLE!
Update: After about a year and a half.... guess what- they ABANDONED Call Record.... There have many issues after the Sunrocket implosion, including extreme waits for service tickets and other various problems that have cropped up. I cannot in good conscience recommend them. They just aren't stable and reliable.
Update: Viatalk does it again. They are now trying to retroactively apply fees to the contract I signed- this after the CEO himself, on this very forum promised that this would not happen. Shame on you Viatalk. I have downgraded all the rating, since it more accurately reflects my feelings about Viatalk...
Final Update- After two years of inconsistent service and HORRIBLE billing practices, I finally have come to the end of my 2 year contract with them. My recommendation is to run FAR away from this company. They are disreputable, unstable and untrustworthy. They continue to have issues with long passes before dialing, outages for which they refuse to offer credits for, mistakes in billing, and their ever popular "we change your fee (and don't let them tell you they're taxes... they aren't) at our whim, whenever, however..." practices. They offer scores of features, many of which never work properly and their service is worthless for faxing. Call record never did materialize as a useful feature, and for 75% of my service wasn't available at all. Never once did they provide any credits for the lack of ADVERTISED features. It's a crappy company and I advise ALL to stay away.... far, far away!
