---------- Update January 23, 2008 ----------
I just packed up my adapter and shipped it off to ViaTalk.
What a difference a year makes. I signed on in October 2006 and couldn't have been happier; outstanding call quality and excellent features at a fantastic price. All that has changed since the fall of Sunrocket. ViaTalk got greedy and tried to absorb as many former Sunrocket customers as they could. Not only did VT not have the capacity to service all the Sunrocket refugees but now they can't even service their established customers.
My service through ViaTalk has slowly deteriorated these past several months. It got to the point where I could no longer communicate. 100% of my calls (incoming & outgoing) were faulty (dropouts, jitter, fast busy, fail to connect, etc.).
Calling support was no help. They just blamed my home network or my ISP. Never mind that everything checks out fine on testyourvoip.com and my calls to a POTS line using Skypeout were fine.
I can no longer recommend ViaTalk as a replacement for POTS or even another VOIP. Unless they get it together real soon, they are headed for the same fate as Sunrocket.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------
I've had ViaTalk for 3 months and I've been using it full time (after my port went through) for 1 month and I am 100% satisfied. There is nothing ViaTalk could do to increase my satisfaction. I can do everything I'd ever want with my phone service through their well laid out web portal. It's all there and it is all self explanatory. The quality is superb all of the time. I have yet to experience any of the common VOIP quirks like echo or random DTMF tones during a conversation. Thanks in part to my ISP (Wide Open West) I've had zero down time.
The only problem was with my LNP and it may or may not have been the fault of ViaTalk. They blamed QuantumVoice and QV blamed ViaTalk. ViaTalk worked diligently on the problem keeping me apprised of their progress through friendly emails. In the end they got it done.
I'm sorry if I'm gushing here but honestly ViaTalk knows what they are doing and are very responsive to their customers. Want proof? Head on over to ViaTalk forum here where their CEO frequently posts. I've had a lot of experience with VOIP almost from the very start. I went from SBC -> Vonage (poor quality, ineffective tech support) -> WOW Phone (expensive, weak feature set) -> Axvoice (just plain bad) -> QuantumVoice (serious, constant billing errors, price doubled in 6 months) and finally ViaTalk. Hopefully, I'm here to stay.
