I signed up in April 06. I got 'caught' between offers and was 'promised' 15 mos. of service instead of the 2 year BOGO free that I thought I signed up for. I got neither!
I got the $179/yr price I believe.
My account page says I'm a BYO customer but I am NOT! I use their provisoned adaptor.
I am looking for another provider to switch to next April as VT has been nothing short of a disappointment. The 15 day try out period is just too short to make a good decision.
The crappy support and charging for 'priority' support is just bogus. I've been hung up on, disconnected from a CSR after waiting over 2 hrs. without a callback and just all around frustrated by this sub par service.
Now they are mailing out cancellation & suspension notices for 'non-payment' of the $2.50 911 fee after I updated credit card info, twice! To say they are incompetent is an understatement!
They will blow me off as either a newbie or tech challenged but neither is true.
The old business phrase 'the customer is always right' does NOT apply here. In fact the customer is always to blame according to VT.
I give a 2 outta 10!
I was hoping they were good. I was very disappointed. They kept disappointing the whole time I'm with them. Now about 10 months.
Update 1/26/08
I'm trying a new provider before porting my #. I will transfer out of VT as soon as I know the new provider is OK. I have a new month to month account and after a week it's better than VT.
I give VT a 1 outta 10 and that 1 is for their feature. Now that I've had these features fail me repeatedly over the past 7 months, I guess VT gets a 0! Just follow their forum here at BBR. I have allot of the common issues stated there. My ISP is fine & monitored by BBR. I've been there and done that with TWC to get my net service 'fixed' after not accepting their excuses.
I'll review the new VoIP provider after my # is safe & I'm a safe distance from VT.
Update 2/17/08
New provider is proving to be much better than VT for reliability for me. I receive all calls and have no trouble getting dial tone. I'm in the process of porting out my phone number now. I hope I can separate myself from VT easily and move on.
Oh and yes my ISP troubles are over for a while now. My area was updated and I have it monitored by BBR just in case something goes down so I know the why.
update 3/12/08
My number has been successfully ported from VT. I can now gather the stuff that was in the VT setup box for return.
I have the two ATA's hooked up & working. My new provider's line rings and has good voice quality. I call out on both services just to see the difference. It's so rewarding for me to prove to myself that VT just doesn't work reliably! I've had 2 ATA's hooked up side by side for over a month now to compare the difference between them. The new one works fine while I get either a fast busy or silence on the VT line! I reboot the VT ATA and it's OK again. I've had to restart the VT box many many times a day to get it to work (port forwarded/put in DMZ etc.) while the new guy needed no restarts! Plus when dialing out there are rings BEFORE a person picks up, no fast busy & repeated failed dial outs. Incoming- the phone rings BEFORE going to voicemail, simultaneous ring works as do the other features, only have to say 'hello' once because the first 'hello' was clipped on VT etc.!
I am so relieved to find that is was VT and not me causing my phone problems. This solves it! Now to pack the return box!
