I ordered Via talk through their website in September of2007. They were running a promotion of two line for two years for $200. The website signup was very easy but there was a problem with my phone number. The website allows you to pick an area code and an exchange but it doesn't tell you that you may not get your first choice. When I recieved the PAP in the mail the phone number I was assigned was in a completely different area code (there are 5 area codes in NYC), and there was only one phone number when I thought I was getting two. I immediately sent an e-mail with my concerns and Tiffany promptly replied to explain how the two phone lines worked and that she was forwarding my phone number problem to the billing department. I actually like that there is only one phone number for the two lines, it suits my usage perfectly. I might have missed it during signup but I wish the website would have made it more clear during the signup process. E911 was not automatically setup and I was not able to do it through the website but after I sent an e-mail the issue was resolved very quickly. When I call somebody the caller id w/name comes up with some strange info, I sent an e-mail and after two weeks they said that they would update the caller ID with the info I wanted. More than TWO MONTHS after I sent the initial e-mail about the phone number I was assigned I finally get a response from the billing deptartment. The e-mail said that if a phone number was available in the area code that I was originally promised then I would have to pay $9.95 to get it. I was not happy about that.

I am running Viatalk over a FiOS connection using the Verizon supplied Actiontec router. I plugged in the PAP that was pre-provisioned by Viatalk and dialtone worked immediately. The only major problem that I had was in the very beginning, after a night of heavy bittorrents I wake up to find that I have no dial tone. I blame this on the "Actioncrap" router. No dial tone after downloading bittorrents is unacceptable so I log into the router and give the Viatalk PAP a high QoS and later I install a Hawking broadband booster. There has not been a loss of dialtone since. On the rare occasion there will be an echo on the line but if I hang and and call back the echo dissappears. Next up is to put a battery backup on the network equipment to keep my dialtone working in case of a power outage.

All in all the phone line has been reliable but the response times of the people watching the trouble tickets has been dissappointing.
