I don't get all the raves about Teksavvy. They are a mixed bag so far. They cancelled my order twice. It is finally running now, but slower than I would like. Tech support says I can call back in 48 hours and they will be able to look at the speed. That will be my 10th tech support call so far, and I've had the DSL running for 5 minutes. I appreciate being able to talk to real-live Canadians when I call, but I've never had to call so much.
Significant hiccups I have never seen before: No documentation about how to setup voicemail. No documentation about how to do the initial DSL modem setup. That would have saved a few support calls. No option to rent hardware. I don't know how long that modem I had to buy for $99 is going to last.
I'm hoping I'll be able to get better speed in the future. And I'm hoping I won't have to call tech support again. Other than Bell itself, I don't have any other option here. If Rogers ever offers cable here, I might consider them.

| Re: TN516 I don't like to purchase hardware until I know I can trust the service provider. I bought my own cable modem when I had Cox Communications and it ran great for 2 years. That same cable modem was flaky with RCN. RCN's policy was that if they have to send a tech out to your house and the problem is with your equipment, they'll charge you $49 (circa 2003) each time. So, I had to disconnect my own modem and use RCN's just to avoid the $49 charge for the monthly service calls.
So, I do think it is wise to rent for a while and if the company seems trustworthy and your connection is solid, then buy your own hardware. Otherwise, owning could be much more expensive than renting.

Keep trying with TSI. things in regards to connection can be either the modem *which could be replaced if faulty* or bell's crap lines, which TSI has no part of.

| I will. The good upload speed really helps. I will have to see how my long-distance iChat sessions work.
On the other hand, if my 3 Mb download is all I can get and I find I need more, it doesn't matter if the fault is with Bell's lines. It is a moot point since Bell's lines are all I have now.
If I ever do get Cable service in my little broadband dead-zone, I might compare them side by side. I've done that before and DSL beat out the cable modem. A year later, the cable service improved and I switched to that.
