I'm editing this review in light of recent changes. I'm now set up and running, and so far have found the service quite good. Good speed, no reliability problems yet, and Teksavvy has called me twice to ensure everything's working.

Their tech support was very helpful when I called.

It still took over a month to set up and I think the communication complaints I listed below are valid concerns, but since then the service has been very good. And it's hard to beat the price.

    Below is my original review.

    ***************************
It's been over a month since I placed my order with Teksavvy for both phone and DSL services. The phone is working (that took three weeks and several delays), the DSL is still pending. I think it's time to warn other people about the incredibly poor service and communication from this company.

Here is outline of my experience.

Weds, June 18 - I was a Rogers customer both for phone and internet, and decided I didn't like their bandwidth cap and prices. So after shopping around, I decided on Teksavvy. I called them and signed up for their phone and internet services. I was told that keeping my same phone number would take "5 to 10 business days". I thought that delay sound a bit long, but I was in no hurry, or so I thought. I asked if a phone technician needed to come into my house, and was told no.

I received an email from Teksavvy saying they would contact me when the phone service was ready for activation.

Thurs, July 3 - The 10th business day after I placed the order. I called Teksavvy to ask what was going on, they said it was taking longer than expected. They said it should be ready by the end of the week.

Fri, July 4 - That afternoon I called again to ask about my phone service. They said Rogers was dragging their heels, and that it would be early the next week. I was then told a Bell technician may have to come to my house because "Rogers always makes a mess of things", but the actual appointment would be made later, when the phone number had been transferred.

Tues, July 8 - I called again to ask for an update. They again blamed Rogers, which I can accept but I wonder why nobody ever called me to explain the delay. I asked if it would happen soon, as I didn't want to be billed for another month's services from Rogers. They said they didn't know when it would happen. I asked when the Bell technician would be coming, I was told it probably wasn't needed.

I asked to speak to a manager regarding the technician issue. If someone needed to come to my house I needed to know ahead of time, and I had been given conflicting answers to my question. The manager's answer was "I don't know."

Thurs, July 10 - I called Teksavvy again. Still no phone service, no update on when it would happen, but they said "soon".

Friday, July 11 - I happened to have taken this day off for personal reasons. In the morning I got a phone call out of the blue from a Bell technician. "Hi, I have an appointment to do some work on your phone jacks, will you be home in 15 minutes?" Teksavvy gave me absolutely no warning or notice of this appointment. I had to change my plans for the day and it was very inconvenient, but since I'd already waited so long I wasn't going to put it off. The technician came, rewired the jacks, and suddenly my phone service was working. Huzzah!

So getting the DSL activated would be a quick thing, right? I mean they'd had three weeks. Not so fast.

Monday, July 14 - I get an email from Teksavvy saying my DSL service was set for activation on Thurs, July 17. Why the delay? I have no idea.

Thurs, July 17 - Around 8pm I called Teksavvy to ask when my DSL service would be activated. The customer service rep very quickly brushed me off with a "it could be any time from not until midnight, goodbyesir".

Friday, July 18 - Still no DSL. I called again, I was told it had been pushed back to July 22.

So that's where it sits. Tomorrow it's supposed to be working, but I'm not optimistic. It's important to note that with all these delays, rescheduling, and especially the phone technician appointment, not once did my phone ring with a call from Teksavvy. Their communication is astoundingly bad, the delays are just unacceptable. It's been more than a month since I first called them. Since my service doesn't involve any contract I'm now looking elsewhere for a better DSL provider.

    Delays

    >>Monday, July 14 - I get an email from Teksavvy saying my DSL service was set for activation on Thurs, July 17. Why the delay? I have no idea.

This delay was due to the slow setup of the phone service. ie taking three weeks or so. then once the line work order is done they can continue to do the setup of the dsl. which in al things takes 5 business days minimal there's no way around this. If they did this order even a week before the phone line was setup it prob would have been rejected by bell.

AS for better dsl service good luck looking for one

    Ouch....

Can you provide me with your details (PM me them)? I'm currently working on the processes to try and find a way to bridge the gaps between phone and DSL are there are some pretty serious ones right now (Phone is with Bell Retail and DSL is with Bell Wholesale). We're having a hell of a time getting accounts flipped and from time to time some definitely fall through (sorry).

In any case, please PM me your details and I'll see about helping you with this.

    thanks

    Hi Rocky,

I sent you my phone # and postal code by email. Thanks for replying so soon.

    daboom,

The delays I could have lived with if I'd had better communication from them. But repeatedly pushing back deadlines, and booking a technician's appointment, all without notifying me at all really doesn't sit well.

    Bell / Rogers

Hard to believe that there can be a bigger pain than Bell, but Rogers seems to have them beat.

A lot of the complaints on a transition to TSI seem to come from Rogers customers. They really do not explain to people how much they are f**king up your home phone line when they take over your service and rewire your phone. And they seem to be tremendously unhelpful.

Makes it hard to get out of the Bell / Rogers loop for services that have alternatives.

    well

"I think it's time to warn other people about the incredibly poor service and communication from this company."

    are you kidding?

Have you seen how MANY positive reviews there are as opposed to negative here, yet you are putting it into a spin where we are all lying or something?

I feel for your issues, and I know Rocky and the team will help you.

I can understand that you may seem upset by some supposedly rude comments by staff, but since you signed up here, post in the TSI direct forum, and get help from the big wigs.

Then you can re-evaluate your rating, seeing as how bell and rogers don't have any higher-ups who frequent the forums here.

I hate rogers and their CRAP tech. support... But, MAJOR kudos to the TekSavvy team!

    Re: well

I didn't accuse anyone of lying, KPaul. I just described my experience, and I think the complaints I had were valid.

As I stated in my edited review, since I posted the original Teksavvy has very quickly responded to try to fix things. +1 for that. And I'm set up now and happy with it, so things are good.

If my setup experience was an isolated incident then fine, maybe there's no problem. But if not, I'm just hoping Teksavvy reviews some of their policies. No matter how you cut it, sending a Bell tech to a customer's house with only 15 minutes' warning is obviously an error, somewhere in the system. And if activations are going to be delayed by days or weeks there should be an email or phone call informing the customer of it.

    Re: well

Nice to hear things worked out and yes the delays and lack of communication can be valid points but it's also something they are in the works of revamping (posted even before your review I beleive) to help smoothin things out.

In the same boat right now with setup

Don't want to enter a new review as we're still waiting for service so can't comment on the performance but...

Our service was set to be activated on July 11th, which was also our move-in date for the new house. When we got to the house that evening there was a note that bell had been out there to set up our lines. Later that night connected a phone and got a dial tone so assumed everything was working.

Found out a couple days later that the line was shorting out when calling in, 1/2 ring then dead. Reported to Teksavvy at that time.

Found out last night that Teksavvy has been trying to call us... on the number that we reported to them as non-functional. Never once did they try the 2 alternates we have put on the account. The CSR told us "we've been trying to call you but you number is out of service" (this is the number FROM teksavvy).

Was also informed our modem isn't even shipped yet since they can't confirm our phone is working.

Been a couple weeks now and it seems they are finally going to fix it tomorrow by 9.

So far we are not impressed at all with the level of service we've recieved, this shouldn't take NEARLY this long, and we're being billed for this ####.
