    My Other Reviews·Bell Sympatico
No longer in Bell country, I am now in Telus country.

Installation went smoothly. I have opted for a "DRY" DSL line. Premium in BC is more expensive than premium in Ontario - I suspect that is due to Telus. Reason I chose Teksavvy here in (was with BellER SympaticoER in Ontario) BC is because of their relationship with their customers, and because of their data cap (I can't use "bandwidth" - totally the wrong word to describe data caps, my bandwidth / speed is 6MB down). The competition - both Telus and Shaw - have much lower data caps which is rather useless to me when I have a VPN to company office almost full time plus VOIP PBX extension running almost full time. And I download ISO Linux and Asterisk and etc. images via BT.

All in all, I am happy with Teksavvy. Unless a competitor comes up with something better in speed AND caps, AND pricing, I see no reason to think about leaving Teksavvy.

Oh yes, one more thing. Speed is advertised at 6M down / 1M up, but speedtests usually show much slower speeds. However, there have been times when a speedtest has shown (e.g.) 4M down, but a download of a large file as Opera showing a 590KB/s to 610KB/s throughput. My modem shows that connections are at 6M/1M. Does Telus also "throttle" their everything?

    Advertised speed.

Regarding the speeds, if it is advertised 6M they mean 6 megaBITS per second, not megaBYTES. 600KB/s download rate is right where it should be as you will never actually hit advertised speeds because of overhead. Speedtests aren't always accurate, go by "real world" download speeds.

I understand that... And re-reading my review, I could have been clearer. 6Mb/s is comparable to 600KB/s. That is why I was making the comment about the speedtests showing (on average) about 4Mb/s down, but my file transfers on certain files showing a download speed that was closely matching the transfer rate of 6Mb/s that I am paying for.

Other than that, I have been satisfied with Teksavvy.

    Thanks for your comment.
