I switched to TekSavvy from Rogers because my Rogers bill got higher every month, until it was about $150 for phone, long distance and internet. I came to this site looking for recommendations and chose TekSavvy because they were:
- Fairly priced
- Canadian
- Reputed to have Great Customer Service
I have now been a TekSavvy customer for almost a year and I can't say enough good things about the service. It is consistently fast, reliable enough to support my VOIP telephone line and every issue I have had has been quickly cleared up by their fantastic support staff.
Setup was easy, the box came quickly and the supplied SpeedTouch modem worked out of the box with the D-Link Router I had connected my BabyTEL Linksys ATA to. I completed the order online, and was disconnecting my rogers and Connecting my new services the same or the next day. The service was activated immediately with a small setup charge ($25 I think?) and from then on it worked fairly seamlessly.
I pay around $39 CAD per month for Premium High Speed DSL service, including all fees and GST. Premium service gives you 5 Megs download and 800 K upload, with 200 GB / month of bandwidth, which I have never gone over, in spite of being a fairly heavy net user. Although the stats are worse, I find it faster (or less laggy at least?) than my former Rogers service. If it can support my VOIP, I'm happy.
The tech support people have quickly resolved any minor issues, usually within a day and by email, my preferred way of dealing with tech issues. They reviewed my VOIP setup when I was having call quality issues and thoroughly vetted the configuration, saying the quality couldn't be improved. They were right, it turned out that my handset was broken. A new phone resolved it. The quality since then has been consistently good.
The most major issue occurred when I recently moved; the service transfer was indicated as successful, however I was getting no connectivity. TekSavvy called in Bell techs to repair it, and they managed to bungle the situation leaving me without phone or internet service for about 1-1/2 weeks. It was somewhat annoying to have to ask TekSavvy people to check Bell records and then get back to me, but that's the only time within the year that I would have preferred to be with Bell. The TekSavvy techs were really good about following up, and the problem (which was an equipment issue outside of the house) was corrected with no charge to me. Can't complain about that!
Bottom line - no staying on hold for a half hour when you have a technical issue, great prices, reliable and fast DSL. Whats not to like? I highly recommend TekSavvy for DSL.
