    My Other Reviews·Bell Sympatico
It's hard to believe that it has been over a year that I have been with Teksavvy.

Time certainly flies by fast when you're having fun!

As such, I think the time has come where I can chime in about my experience Teksavvy.

My previous ISP's had been Rogers (for many years), and Bell for a short period of time (read my Bell review!!). Comparing Teksavvy to both, is like comparing water to oil (slickness metaphor is intentional!!). Like water, Teksavvy is transparent. Within the forums here, their CEO Rocky (along with other TSI staff) has put in a huge effort to network with their customer base, thus helping ensure a better service. I honestly can't relate this to anything from experience, because I've never seen such a close relationship between a company and the rank and file! It certainly is unique, and refreshing.

The connection reliability has not always been perfect, but most of this was likely my own fault! Initially, I was using the affordable 2Wire 2700HG-B modem, with which I would experience regular connection drops, which was annoying. The problem became less frequent when I ran it in bridge mode, alongside my Linksys WRTSL54GS, though I could never successfully turn off the Wifi! Around 4 months ago, I purchased the ST516v6 modem, and this has run very smoothly (for the most part). There was a brief period where Teksavvy was experiencing frequent disconnects related to their support of MLPPP, but this seemed like a small price to pay for being able to bypass Bell's ruthless throttling of service! Since then, I had something like 28 days with no disconnection, disrupted by a power failure in my home.

Through the past year, I've experienced a learning curve, moving from knowing squat about DSL, to a more knowledgeable vantage point (that clearly pales in comparison to the various experts that visit this forum!). For this, I have to thank not only TSI staff themselves, but the various TSI customers who take the time to help their fellow customers. As such, the tech support is fantastic!

Up until a few days ago, I had never experienced any major problem, other than the above mentioned disconnects. My connection dropped completely, and I noticed that the DSL light on my modem was dark. I contacted Teksavvy, to discuss the problem. It's important to note how refreshing it is to talk to someone who isn't simply following a procedure manual (Rogers, Bell - Are you listening???)!!! The tech listened to what I had to say, explained a few things for me to check out, and opened a ticket with Bell to investigate the problem. It turns out that there were "problems" with my line card, and it had to be replaced. I was told it could take anywhere up to 48 hours for a Bell tech to work on this, which made me feel nauseous. I was pleasantly surprised when my modem's DSL light turned on some 7 hours later! I am still working through some kinks, but this can be attributed to my decision to learn about and tinker with and update my demarcation point and internal telephone wiring within the house.

The service itself is good, though it would obviously be better to have access to faster speeds. During my brief experience with Sympatico, I saw that I could easily sustain 7mb service based on my location, and have hoped it would eventually be passed on to Bell's wholesale partners. Frankly, watching the way Bell has acted over the past year has made me sick to my stomach, and has certainly raised the red flags with regards to the dangers of having a large media empire control our pipes. The fact that only a small select amount of people actually notice this is even sadder! Ideally, like many others on this forum, I wish that there could be some way that Teksavvy could completely break away from the greedy clutches of BCE! I'm very grateful for the functionality of MLPPP, which allows me to use my internet as I please, and when I please, and actually use the speeds that have been advertised. Most important of all, I appreciate having access to an uncapped service, instead of being penny-pinched. As such, Teksavvy provides great value for the money that I pay.

Lastly, I'd like to clarify that I am not just some blind Teksavvy fan-boy declaring his love for the company, though I think this should be obvious from my review. It is through my experience with them, where they have respected me and my needs, that I in turn pass on my respect to them! Good work Teksavvy! If there is any justice in this world, I hope you are allowed to manage your business as you see fit!
