When I ordered a dry DSL line, I was expecting like 3 weeks of downtime, but got an appointment for 4 days later. Bell's tech actually came, spending every minute trying to sell me Bell's service as the best in the world, and such. He did his work and went away. An hour later, I had unstable DSL I tried to troubleshoot on my own with DSL Modem Tool for a few days. As every hypothesis failed to verify, a quick call to Teksavvy's tech service revealed that Bell has connected my line to a wrong port, and the techie assured me that this was very common, and would be solved the following day, and advised me to keep my modem off so as to have an easier transition. The fact is they couldn't find my modem remotely.

The following day, I unplugged the modem before going to work, and plugged it back, nd it was syncing at full speed. Problem solved, I placed a call to Tek to confirm it was working.

So far, no problem syncing in MLPPP and a Tomato-equipped WRT54GL; it can take anywhere between a minute and ten, but as DSL is not intended to go offline, that's not really an issue.

I wish they could provide ADSL 2+ and lower prices, but the techie revealed that Bell didn't sell ADSL 2+ access to wholesale customers, and that the wholesale price for ADSL+no caps+band was nearing 35$, while they sell it 40$ before taxes.

Alternatively, faster uplad speeds would be a godsend, as this is technically possible.

Clearly, Bell is the reason why ADSL service has a so poor performance/price ratio here in Montreal (as well as Vide*tron exceedingly poor retail and wholesale customer policy), and the CRTC should do his job by forcing them to rent their network at decent prices to allow competitors to be just that, competitive.

As a minor side note, if you don't have a credit card, you're out of luck. As most companies, they don't take checks. They could take PayPal, at least, and online Interac would be a big plus. I also listed the "no contract" thing as a good point, even if every serious ISP now doesn't force you in a contract with stiff penalty

    Without Bell

Teksavvy could do more by building out its own network using their own equipment. The thing is they DO NOT want to. They'd rather make their customers still use the Bell network and pass everything on to them. It's cheaper for them now and in the future. Why they don't really maintain anything.

If Teksavvy wanted to compete against bell they would build out their own wireless network using MOT Canopy.

Huh? This isn't as simple as turning on a light-bulb.... Licences have to be requested before placing equipment in Central offices or setting up wireless networks. Customers currently are all on wireline so to do the wireless would be of no benefit to them. If you were informed you would have noticed we have taken steps to getting our own equipment in COs and to boot, we've also taken much of our income to fight the issues we're currently faced with, slowing us down some on placing equipment in COs...

So, we're not standing still, but we still have to service and deal with the current situation and clients.

    Re: Without Bell

Your "licenses" do not apply to unlicensed frequencies that products such as Canopy uses. You have a lot of Wireless Internet providers up there so you can't say they have to pay to access the airwaves, and you can't tell me that Linksys pays to use them as well.

Yes standing still is NOT building out fully building out your own network- ie: the last mile. Instead you rely on the Government to force Bell to do it for you. Just because you pay to Co-lo equipment does not mean you're doing everything that you could it just means you have equipment somewhere that you own.

Also maybe new customers that are trying to get away from Bell would like to get fully away from them and not support them in anyway- like they do with you.

Hottboiinnc, you obviously have no clue of the way things work up here. We have things here called monopolies - you might have heard of them - and being the (large) incumbents, they will fight tooth, claw, and nail politically, and any other way they can, to make damned certain they not only remain #1, but they are the ONLY one.

Much easier down south of the border.

And presently, since they own the "last mile" to your residence, choices are limited.

    Re: Without Bell

Wireless is not limited to monopolies. Get Moto Canopy and get rid of the issue.

Again- ISPs in Canada just doesn't wanna do anything except be allowed to piggy back on another providers network. The UNE deals run out and so will Teksavvy. You can only piggy back by rules and laws for so long. Then you get what you have here- Cable and DSL unless someone else builds out using their OWN last mile network. Teksavvy will be the next Earthink if they don't, mark my words for it.

It's funny how Teksavvy, despite piggy-backing off Bell, has something like a 98% positive rating.

While "hottboi"'s service has a rating 50%. Does anyone really take this guy seriously? If you provide such incredibly sh***y service to your own customers, who the heck would trust their business decisions with you??

    Tek's own network

Agree this is difficult to maintain a network; and even then, I doubt any customer will want to pay more to be just on a different network than Bell's. And buyting power being what it is, I double Tek would be able to get a good deal on accessing the backbones as Bell is capable of (when they don't own the backbone)

They could do some premium by selling ADSL service where Bell actually doesn't go, such as the countryside, and make some real competition for excessive Videotron's rates.

    huh

And what are you talking about if you don't have a credit card you are out of luck.

I don't pay TSI with credit I pay them using my banks online billing same way I do for all my bills and i've done thats since I signed up.
