I was a long time Sympatico customer (from the Nortel 1Meg Modem days on) but Bell has been slowly increasing prices for the same service. When I left I was on the 6M/800K profile that I had been on for over 5 years and the cost had increased to $74/month. Five years ago this same level of service was under $50/month. With TSI, the max profile on DSL currently is 5M/800K but the cost is less than half of Sympatico...
The TSI website/order form are out of date/overly complicated. The customer support lines took 40 minutes of hold time each of the times I had to call. Both of these calls could have been avoided with just a tiny bit of additional information on their web-site. I have to wonder how many extra calls they get because of the poor order form...
Overall I have been very happy with the service. Looking at the forums here on dslreports, you can see that TSI is very customer focused.
I was going to transfer my number from Rogers but I am having some issues with Rogers Billing and it was suggested to obtain a new number. Sadly it will cost $25.00 just for a new number ( what I do not understand a new number does not cost anything for Rogers or Bell why Tek Savvy is this legal) Also it takes 5 days for Bell if setup the DSL service again not much you can do when Bell owns the network. The sad thing is the 5 megs I have heard they are trying to get the same service as Bell gives to it's own customers. I wish them luck Bell and Rogers are two powerful companies with plenty of lobbyist. As former Rogers employee I know all to well the power of Rogers within the CRTC. So recap the only thing so far I am not happy about is the 25 dollars I have to pay extra and the waiting time. So far the customer service has been brilliant (we did have a minor bump in the road but that has been sorted). I believe all Canadians have to support these smaller ISPs and start kicking Bell and Rogers in the crown jewels. They have too much power for far too long and also it is time to get rid of the CRTC. I suggest a independent body that is free from Rogers and Bell influcence.
