Update 11/21/2007
Symmetrical Fios became available today. I had been waiting for this since I had heard about the symmetrical roll out. I tried to place the order on the internet, but it would not let me upgrade. Called the tech support number and talked with a gentleman that fully explained the new service and checked to validate that I could get it. I placed the order. Tonight their site and phone mail said it was done, but I sill had 15 down and 2 up. Called tech support and was told it was done and transferred me to orders who knew nothing about it. I tried again several hours later and thanks to Mike the tech support guy, he did some investigating and found I should have had it. He worked with the tech's in NT and had the profile rebuilt. He called me back throughout the repair and when I finally was told to reboot the router, I had 15 up and 15 down. My kudos for this tech who hung in there to get it fixed.
Update 10/13/2007
I had finally called the Customer Advocate line, and got action on my complaints. Verizon sent out two techs this morning and upgraded the ONT to a 612. The last tech had installed a 611 REHAB which was causing the problems according to the techs that were here this morning. They said the box that was last installed had problems and Verizon was aware. They immediately installed the upgraded version of ONT. The 612 is the latest ONT box, and seems to have solved my problems. The techs told me this was a new version. They were very competent and checked everything before leaving my house. They agreed there was an issue and made the changes to a unit that dealt with the shortcomings of the old ONT. I will post back in a week or to to update this.
Update 9/20/2007
In the past 2 1/2 weeks since the ONT was replaced with the latest and greatest, my phone service is spotty at best. It now has echos in it 75% of the time, and goes through spells where you cannot get a line to dial out on. I have spoken to tech support on multiple occasions who claim the line tests indicate no problems. If they were on my end, they would understand there are issues. I asked them to install the older ONT that used to work without these issues, but was told they would not do anything. My Actiontec router overheated and died, and it took 3 calls and a lot of arguing to replace it. The response was that I had a 3 year old router and should not expect for Verizon to replace it. Verizon had just installed this within the past 6 months, and had not been using this router type when they installed me originally. I am tired of arguing with Tech Support and will be looking to switch my service. Love the speed, but do not have the time or desire to fight with low level clerks who are reading prepared scripts and care less about providing true customer service. I have all of the services Verizon offers via Fios, but they obviously do not care if they lose a customer. It is a shame that they are not willing to try to address issues. Things are fine until there is a problem. Then you are out of luck!!!!
Update: 9/1/2007
Have just about hit the 3 year anniversary. I started having issues every 3 weeks with the TV and Internet going out. I would call Tech support, they would reboot the ONT and I would be good for another several weeks. Finally got a tech support person who looked at the history and asked why there had not been a truck roll. She set one up for today, and I got the latest ONT. The internet is back and TV also. We will see whether it lasts more than the 3 weeks I have been accustomed to over the past 3 months. At least she picked up on the history and made the decision to replace it. Guess it depends on who you reach. Also the new ONT is a lot less ugly than the old ones and looks cosmetically better on the house. The tech that came out was very competent and totally checked everything to make sure all was working as it should. I should add that they offered to send a tech the next day but due to my schedule, I picked today between 8 and 12, and she arrived at 8:45. Great service...Hopefully the good results I have been used to will keep on working........
I was the first home in Grapevine Texas to go live on Fios. I am on the 15/2 package. It has been performing without any incidents since October of 2004. Outside of the change out of the ONT due to an upgrade (I had an original unit that was creating issues for Verizon), I have not been down at all. The D-Link wireless router is a joke. They went through two before they let me use my Linksys, which works perfectly. Fios TV just became available here, and I switched over to that a week ago. So far, so good. The only oddity is that they had to install a D-Link router to handle fios TV, and that made me set my Linksys to DHCP coming off of their router. It works however the installer told me that the new ONT's that are coming will eliminate the need for the Motorola converter they had to run off of their D-Link router. The installer stated the firmware in that router was necessary for Fios TV. That may be true, but they said the same for FIOS Internet. The two calls to tech support were handled promptly and related to e-mail server issues.
