Aug 2006 UPDATE - Now getting 10 MB Upload / 2 MB download for $30. Best deal around!
Had FIOS installed about a month ago. Went for the 5/2 service since it was the same price as the 1.5/768K DSL that I had.
Installation took about 5 hours. Free supplied D-Link 624 wireless router works just fine (Don't know why people complain about it). Tech supplied me with the admin username and password so I was able to go in on turn on the WPA authentication (don't want to give away my bandwidth for free)
Also cut voice service over to the fiber. Had been having static issues for several months (which was also killing my DSL), now crystal clear!
Connection has been up 24/7 since install, no drops! Speakeasy test always indicate a solid 5/1.9 speed. Just found out that Verizion put in a request to offer TV service in my town, so hopefully in a few months I can switch over to that.
Keeps getting faster and cheaper:
1986: 28K GEnie dial-up = $60 ($40 + $20 for 2nd phone line) 1992: 56K ISP dial-up = $45 ($25 + $20 for 2nd phone line) 1998: 512K/128K DSL = $39 2002: 768K/384K DSL = $35 2004: 1.5Mb/768K DSL = $30 2006: 5.0Mb/2.0MB Fiber = $30 Aug 2006: 10.0MB/2.0MB Fiber = $30
Update: 2008: Upgraded to FIOS TV service last summer (2007). Great picture and sound.
