Ordered on 07/08/06 with a door-to-door rep, installed 07/21/06. I was supposed to be ready to go on the 18th, but the contractor didn't dig in the "condo" by the 18th. Verizon tech came in and noticed that, took him about 2 hours of sitting in his truck to finally get an answer for when the contractor will drop the condo in, which was a unsurprisingly fast 3 days (compared to my Comcast experience, which took 2 months). Same day the condo was installed, the tech came in and was done in about 5 hours. I was forced into putting the CD into my comp, the only way to activate I guess. Thinking that the CD will install all kinds of advertisement crap, it didn't. You can choose what you want installed, or uncheck all. I hooked up the router myself. Be warned though, the installer will not bother with your wireless connections, so if you're unexperienced you'll have to go through some pain to config the encryption on the computers you want.
Pros- Great speed, about 14.9 download and 1.76 upload. On game servers, pings are upto 15ms less then my previous Comcast HSI, which went through a lot of CRAN hops (which is a good thing). Actiontech router is actually a huge improvement over my old DI-524 . No slow downs on the ethernet, and about the same speed on the wireless, which is sweet compared to the old routers max 2 meg down on the wired connection, and also the ethernet limit of 700kb/s.
Cons- Delayed installation by 3 days (you can imagine how my FIOS cravings kicked in those days :P). Door-to-door rep promised me 30/5 for 55.95 a month, when I called in, the price was still 179.95. I'm not to upset, since the future 20/5 upgrades?
Condo wasn't dug deep enough, after a heavy rain, it's now exposed. Too lazy to take the shovel and cover it up, hope no one falls and sues...
